Field Hockey Drops Conference Game to Northeastern

Boston, Mass. – The Towson University Field Hockey team visited the Northeastern Huskies in a Coastal Athletic Association matchup on Friday. A strong second half was not enough as the Tigers fell 3-1.

Towson – 5-7, 1-3 CAA
Northeastern – 7-6, 2-1 CAA
 
Key Stats:
  • Megan Popp Scored her first goal of the season.
  • Tessa Scheenstra had three saves in the loss.
  • For Northeastern: Emmy Stubbs, Lara Taylor, and Mak Graves all scored goals in the first half; Kristi Merashoff picked up the win with three saves.
 
How it Happened:
  • The Huskies struck first late in the first quarter when Mak Graves scored to put Northeastern up early.
  • A minute later Emmy Stubbs had a shot saved by Tessa Scheenstra, but the ball fell to Lara Taylor who scored to double the Huskies lead.
  • In the middle of the second quarter, Graves found Stubbs in the circle who scored to push the lead to three.
  • Late in the third quarter, the Tigers won a corner, but Sarah Hatfield's shot was saved by Huskie goalie Kristi Merashoff.
  • Towson won three corners in the first five minutes of the fourth quarter, the third corner saw a shot from Kristin Strijdom saved, but the ball fell to Megan Popp who scored to bring the Tigers within two.
  • Northeastern closed out the game from there for the 3-1 win.
