Field Hockey Falls to Hawks in Conference Matchup

West Long Branch, N.J. – The Towson University Field Hockey team visited the Monmouth Hawks in its penultimate Coastal Athletic Association game of the season. Monmouth came away from the game with a 4-1 victory.

Monmouth – 9-5, 2-2, CAA
 
Key Stats:
  • Kristin Strijdom scored her third goal of the season.
  • Tessa Scheenstra took the loss with five saves.
  • For Monmouth: Sofia Fouces, Anna Moors, Claire Campen, and Bella Coluzzi scored goals, Jessie Eiselin picked up the win with two saves.
 
How it Happened:
  • Monmouth struck in under a minute when Milla Frye had a shot saved by Tessa Scheenstra, but the ball fell Claire Campen who scored to put the Hawks up early.
  • Tigers won the first corner of the game, but Kristin Strijdom's shot was sent just wide.
  • With under ten seconds left in the first quarter, a long pass from Madisyn Howard found Fiene Valkenburg in the circle, her shot was saved but the rebound fell to Strijdom who scored to tie the game.
  • However, Monmouth would again strike early in a quarter as a cross from the right side of the circle was met by Sofia Fouces who scored to return the lead to the Hawks.
  • With under five minutes left in the second quarter, the Hawks won a corner, and the ensuing shot was stopped by a diving save from Scheenstra.
  • A few minutes later Monmouth won another corner, and Anna Moor's shot was deflected in to double Monmouth's lead.
  • A minute later Towson won a corner, but Sarah Hatfield's shot was saved by Hawk goalie Jessie Eiselin.
  • Midway through the third quarter, a long pass from Monmouth found Bella Coluzzi who scored to make it 4-1 Hawks.
  • A minute later, Valkenburg carried the ball down the right sideline and her cross found Hatfield whose shot was stopped by a diving save from Hawk goalie Charlie Bowman.
  • Early in the fourth quarter, Towson won a pair of corners, but shots from Anouk Westerink and Shannon Quaile were both saved by Bowman. The Hawks closed out the game to win 4-1.

  • The Tigers return home on Sunday to host Bellarmine at noon in the TU Field Hockey Complex.
