Late Goals See Field Hockey Lose to Hofstra

TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University Field team hosted the Hofstra Pride in its final Coastal Athletic Association game of the 2024 regular season. Two fourth quarter goals from Jaime Lewis delivered a 3-2 Hofstra victory.

How it Happened:
  • Towson won the first corner of the game midway through the first quarter, but Anouk Westerink's shot went wide left.
  • The Tigers won another corner with under a minute left in the first quarter, Fiene Valkenburg's delivery was laid off by Olivia Miller for Kristin Strijdom who scored to put Towson up early.
  • Towson won another corner in the first minute of the second quarter, but shots from Valkenburhg and Shannon Quaile were blocked.
  • Towson won three corners in a three-minute stretch in the middle of the second quarter, shots from Westerink, Quaile, and Strijdom were all saved by Pride goalie Pieke Roos.
  • Midway through the third quarter, Hofstra won a corner the ball came to Tara McNally who passed across the circle to Jamie Mc Millan who scored to tie the game 1-1.
  • Towson responded five minutes later when Strijdom played a cross in from the right that found Sarah Hatfield who scored to return the lead to the Tigers heading into the fourth quarter.
  • Two minutes into the fourth quarter, Jaime Lewis received a pass in the center of the circle and turned to her right and scored to tie the game at two.
  • Two minutes later, Lewis took the ball in the midfield and carried it into the left side of the circle and scored again to put Hofstra on top.
  • With eight minutes left in the game, a Towson cross from the right side of the field was met by Lexi Bove, but her effort was saved by Roos.
  • Towson won a corner with three minutes remaining, but Quaile's shot went wide and the game ended in a 3-2 Pride victory.
 
Next Up:
Towson plays its final home game of the regular season Sunday at 1:00 p.m., the Tigers host the Lafayette Leopards.
