Field Hockey Falls to Lafayette

TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University Field Hockey Team lost 4-0 to the Lafayette Leopards in its final home game of the 2024 regular season.
 
Records:
Towson – 6-11
Lafayette – 11-6
 
Key Stats:
  • Tessa Scheenstra had four saves in the loss.
  • Scheenstra's fourth save was the 300th of her career.
  • For Lafayette: Lineke Spaans scored two goals, Maddie Evans and Laila Pasic each scored a goal, and Alex Darrah had two assists; Raffi Fragomeni picked up the win with two saves.
 
How it Happened:
  • Ninety seconds into the game, Lafayette struck first when Alex Darrah laid the ball off for Lineke Spaans who carried the ball into the top of the circle and shot into the right side of the net to take the early lead.
  • The Leopards scored early in the second quarter as well, India Ralph found Spaans who again scored from the top of the circle to double Lafayette's lead.
  • Lafayette scored a third five minutes later, Lea Good crossed the ball from the right edge of the circle and Laila Pasic deflected it into the top of the net.
  • A minute later, Lafayette won a corner, Josephine Van Wijk's shot was denied by a diving save by Tessa Scheenstra.
  • Two minutes later, Towson won a corner, but Kristin Strijdom's shot was saved by Leopard goalie Raffi Fragomeni.
  • In the middle of the third quarter, a Strijdom pass found Olivia Miller in front of the goal, but her shot was denied by Fragomeni.
  • Early in the fourth quarter, Darrah crossed from the left sideline and the cross found Maddie Evans who scored to push the Leopards lead to four. The game ended in a 4-0 Lafayette win.

Towson concludes the 2024 regular season at noon on Sunday, Nov. 3, the Tigers are visiting Lock Haven.
