Field Hockey Loses Conference Game to Drexel

Towson, Md – The Towson University Field Hockey team hosted the Drexel Dragons in both teams third Coastal Athletic Association game of the season. An early Drexel goal would end up being the decider as the Dragons came away with a 1-0 win.

  • Drexel: 7-3, 3-0 CAA
 
Key Stats:
  • The Tigers put all five of their shots on target but could not find the back of the goal.
  • Tessa Scheenstra had six saves in the loss.
  • For Drexel, Anna Castaldo scored her fifth goal of the season from a Pili Lemoine assist; Alana Poole picked up the win with five saves.
 
How it Happened:
  • Drexel had a big chance in the first two minutes, but Pili Lemoine was denied twice by Tessa Scheenstra.
  • The Dragons struck soon after as Lemoine played a pass from the top of the circle to Anna Castaldo whose shot ricocheted over Scheenstra to give Drexel a 1-0 lead.
  • With under a minute left in the first half, Sarah Hatfield had a shot from the middle of the circle, but Drexel goalie Alana Poole made the save.
  • In the middle of the third quarter, Drexel's Tina Rawa had a shot kicked away by Scheenstra.
  • Early in the fourth Towson won the first penalty corner of the game, but Poole saved Hatfield's shot.
  • Drexel won a corner a few minutes later, but shots from Natali Foster were saved by Scheenstra then blocked.
  • Then it was Towson's turn two minutes later to win a corner and be denied by a double save as Poole parried away shots from Anouk Westerink and Fiene Valkenburg.
  • Towson would win one more corner with a minute to play, but Kristin Strijdom's shot was saved by Poole, the Dragons closed out the game from there for a 1-0 win.
 
Next Up:
  • The Tigers are back for Senior Day on Sunday, Towson will be hosting Colgate at the TU Field Hockey Complex at noon.
