COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Towson University men's basketball team faced off against the South Carolina Gamecocks on Tuesday night in Colonial Life Arena. The Tigers (1-2) dropped the non-conference matchup 80-54 to the Gamecocks (2-1).
 
Nendah Tarke led the Tigers with 12 points, seven rebounds and three steals while Christian May finished with ten points and eight rebounds.
 
Key Stats vs South Carolina:

• The Gamecocks shot 50% from the floor while the Tigers shot 29.6%.
• South Carolina had 38 points in the paint compared to 20 for Towson.
• The Tigers went 17-of-29 (58.6%) from the free throw line while the Gamecocks went 22-of-30 (73.3%).

 
How It Happened vs South Carolina:

• The Gamecocks opened the first half with a 12-3 run that spanned over the first six minutes.
• The teams went back and forth exchanging baskets with the Tigers cutting the deficit to seven midway through the first half.
• South Carolina went on an 12-5 run to extend the lead to 14.
• Mekhi Lowery drained a corner three-pointer to cut the lead down to 11, but the Gamecocks closed out the first half with a 11-5 run to lead 43-26 at halftime.
• South Carolina opened the second half by extending its lead to 20, but Towson responded with an 8-2 run to cut the deficit to 14.  
• The Gamecocks went on a 10-3 run to lead by 21.
• The teams exchanged free throws then South Carolina finished the game with a 13-5 run to defeat the Tigers 80-54.
