Third Quarter Push Lifts George Mason over Towson Women’s Basketball

FAIRFAX. Va. – The Towson University women's basketball team faced George Mason in the second game of a five-game road trip to begin the season. A third quarter push from the Patriots lifted them over the Tigers 76-55 on Saturday afternoon at EagleBank Arena in Fairfax, Va.
 
Khady Leye led the field with 18 points, adding a team-high seven rebounds. India Johnston added 13 points and two assists.

  • Jordan Wakefield broke George Mason's 7-2 run with a jumper to make it a three-point game at 12-9.
  • The Patriots closed the quarter on a 10-4 run. Wakefield dropped a pair of free throws and Bristol added another layup late in the period.
  • Towson cut the deficit to four with five-straight points to begin the quarter.
  • Leye scored the Tigers' next nine points, taking the score to 36-27 with 2:04 left in the first half.
  • A pair of threes from Wakefield and Johnston, plus the foul, pulled the Tigers within four points at 38-34 going into the halftime break.
  • George Mason thwarted the Towson attacks in the third quarter, holding the Tigers to six points, to extend their lead to 24.
  • A pair of scores from Johnston and Leye, plus a Wakefield free throw, gave the Black & Gold the first five points of the fourth quarter.
