TOWSON, Md. –Towson men's basketball used a strong second half to complete an 83-76 win over Northeastern on Thursday. Dylan Willamson had a career night with 26 points including 23 in the second half.
Towson (14-8, 7-2 CAA) picked up their fifth straight win and 18
th in a row at TU Arena with the win over the Huskies (8-14, 3-6 CAA).
Charles Thompson chipped in 16 points in the win.
Key Stats:
- Williamson was efficient from the floor going 8-13 and 5-9 from three with four assists.
- Thompson led the team on the glass with seven rebounds adding four assists, two steals and two blocks.
- Tomiwa Sulaiman had four steals as Towson had 10 steals in the game and assisted on 17 of 24 made baskets.
How It Happened:
- Towson would get out to a slow start with Northeastern connecting on a pair of threes early to force a Towson timeout.
- Charles Thompson would end a nearly three-minute drought with a slam off a feed from Nendah Tarke to cut the deficit to three.
- That would spark a 7-0 run capped by a Messiah Jones and one that gave the Tigers their first lead of the contest.
- The Huskies would continue their hot shooting half leading by as many as 15 late in the half. However, the Tigers battled back ending the half on a 6-0 run to cut the deficit to 39-32 after the first 20 minutes.
- Christian May led the Tigers with eight points with Charles Thompson and Nendah Tarke each adding six points.
- Both teams came out of the locker rooms on fire with each team connecting on their first three possessions.
- Towson would cut the deficit down five after a Tomiwa Sulaiman and one at the under 16 timeout.
- The Tigers would come all the way back to tie the game thanks to a pair of steals and runouts, part of a 6-0 run that forced a Northeastern timeout. That would extend to a 13-1 run over four minutes as the Tigers extended their lead.
- Towson would put the clamps down on defense ripping off a 21-2 run over a seven-minute stretch, holding the Huskies without a field goal over ten minutes to extend their lead to double digits.
- Northeastern would not go quietly cutting into the deficit late, but the Tigers converted late in the game, going 26-29 for the game in the win.
Inside The Numbers:
- Dylan Williamson netted a career-high in points. He finished with 26 points after having just three in the first half. His previous best was 18 against Bryant in December.
- Towson extended their win streak to five and their TU Arena win streak to 18 games. The streak is the second longest in the nation this season. The Tigers are now 10-0 on the year at home with the last home loss coming back on December 31, 2022.
