Men’s Basketball Falls at Hofstra, 59-56 on Saturday Night

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Towson men's basketball battled all night with the Pride having a shot late to force overtime, but ultimately fell 59-56 on Saturday. Nendah Tarke led the Tigers with 12 points in the loss.

Towson (14-9, 7-3 CAA) fought back from a late second half deficit against the Pride (13-10, 6-4 CAA) coming back from as many as nine down to tie it with less than four minutes to play. Nendah Tarke led the way with 12 points in the contest.

Key Stats:
  • Tarke collected five rebounds to go with his 12 points with a block and three steals.
  • Tomiwa Sulaiman added 10 points with a team-high eight rebounds. Messiah Jones, and Charle Thompson also had eight rebounds in the game.
  • The Tigers outrebounded the Pride, 42-32 with 17 offensive rebounds that led to 17 second chance points.
How It Happened:
  • Hofstra would strike first but the Tigers would rip off a 6-0 run at the under 16 timeout to take an early 6-2 lead.
  • Tyler Tejada ended a 13-0 run that saw the Pride jump out to a nine-point lead. That would spark a 7-0 Tiger run to cut the deficit to two, forcing a Hofstra timeout.
  • The Pride would continue to push ahead with a strong offensive half, but the Tigers responded. Nendah Tarke would drill back-to-back triples to cut the deficit to two. Chase Paar would tie it late part of an 8-0 run that made it 28-28 at the break.
  • Nendah Tarke led the Tigers with eight points with Chase Paar adding six.
  • Towson would ratchet up the defense to start the second half, outscoring the Pride 8-3 in the first four plus minutes to take a five-point lead.
  • Towson would go cold from the floor as the Pride rattled off a pair of threes to retake a four-point lead.
  • Hofstra would extend to a nine-point lead, but four quick points from Nendah Tarke cut the deficit to just five at the under four timeout.
  • Towson would score off a late steal to cut the deficit to just three with under 10 seconds to go. After Hofstra missed the front end of a one and one, Dylan Williamson came down with a chance to tie it, but his shot was just off the mark as Towson fell 59-56 on Saturday night.
Inside The Numbers:
  • Charles Thompson recorded his 900th career rebound early in the first half. He becomes just the fourth player in program history to record at least 900 career rebounds.
  • Sulaiman tied his season-high with eight rebounds in the game. It was the third time this season he collected eight rebounds with the last time coming against Drexel.
Next Game:
  • Towson will return to TU Arena on Thursday, Feb. 8 to take on Delaware on Military Appreciation Night. Tipoff against the Blue Hens is slated for 7 p.m. and will air on MeTV Baltimore and FloHoops with Spiro Morekas and Jimmy Patsos on the call. Tickets are available at TowsonTigers.com/Tickets.
