GREENVILLE, S.C. – Towson softball picked up a big 3-0 win against Lipscomb to start off the day before falling 5-1 to host Furman in the nightcap. The Tigers got a big pitching performance from
Erin Brown in the opener with
Ally Hickman smashing a solo home run in each game.
Towson (2-5) shut down the Bison, holding them to just three hits this morning behind a complete game from Brown. In the nightcap, Hickman drove in the lone Tiger run on a solo home run in the fifth.
GAME ONE: TOWSON 3, LIPSCOMB 0
Key Stats:
- Brown pitched a gem on Saturday with a complete game win, scattering three hits with four strikeouts.
- Ally Hickman drove in a run with a solo home run. Mackenzie Lake led the Tigers with two hits and an RBI.
- Addie Ferguson also drove in a run for Towson.
How It Happened:
- Towson wasted little time getting things going in the early morning. Elizabeth Yoskowitz led off the first with a single and advanced on a stolen base. Just pitches later she would score on a Mackenzie Lake single to left to make it 1-0.
- Lake would later score on an Addie Ferguson RBI ground out to make it a 2-0 advantage after one.
- Tiger starter Erin Brown would be locked in all game but faced a challenge in the third. Lipscomb would get runners to second and third, but a ground out ended the threat with the Tigers still in front.
- Ally Hickman would add some insurance in the fourth with a two-out solo home run to give Towson a 3-0 lead.
- Brown would not need any more than that as she slammed the door on the Bison the rest of the way to give the Tigers a 3-0 win.
GAME TWO: TOWSON 1, FURMAN 5
Key Stats:
- Six different Tigers recorded hits in the game with Ally Hickman and Isabella Canesi having extra base hits.
- Hickman hit her second home run of the day, driving in the only Tiger run.
How It Happened:
- Both starting pitchers were dueling early with neither side getting much going offensively.
- The Paladines would jump in front in the fourth inning off a grand slam that made it 4-0 Furman.
- Towson would respond the next half inning with a home run of their own. Ally Hickman would smash her second home run of the day to cut the deficit to 4-1.
- Furman would add a run in their half of the fifth to regain a four run lead.
- Towson would have one last chance getting a runner to third, but the Paladins defeated the Tigers 5-1 on Saturday.
On Deck:
- The Tigers will conclude the Furman Invitational on Sunday, Feb. 18 with a pair of games. Towson will start the day against IUPUI at 9 a.m. and then end the weekend against Georgetown at 11:30 a.m.
