BOCA RATON, Fla. – Towson opened its series against the Florida Atlantic Owls Friday evening, falling 8-1 at FAU Baseball Stadium in Boca Raton, Fla.
Towson (1-4) got on the board in the second courtesy of
Bryce Frederick's home run. Florida Atlantic (2-2) responded in the fourth, taking a 3-1 lead on four hits. The Owls tacked on three more in the fifth on two hits. In the eighth, a two-run home run made it an 8-1 game.
Key Stats:
- Bryce Frederick hit his third home run of the early season, setting the pace among conference leaders in the statistic.
- Nate Nabholz (0-1) took the loss for Towson, surrendering three runs (two earned) on four hits in 4.0 innings of work while notching three strikeouts.
- C.J. Williams (1-0) got the win for FAU, tossing seven innings while allowing one run on three hits. Williams added six strikeouts and gave up three walks.
How it Happened:
- The Tigers opened the scoring in the third, courtesy of a towering lead-off home run to left-center field from Bryce Frederick.
- Nate Nabholz retired nine of his first 10 batters faced, with an error allowing one base runner to reach in the third.
- The Owls took the lead in the fourth with three runs on four hits. Leroux's single to right field with runners on second and third scored two. Two batters later, Frank's single to left to make it a 3-1 advantage.
- With Andrew Luczak in to pitch in the fifth, back-to-back hits, a double and single, plated one for the Owls. After loading the bases, Luczak was replaced with Bobby Spencer, who walked the first batter for another Owl run. A fielder's choice groundout to follow allowed the third run to score before Spencer stranded two runners to end the inning.
- Spencer pitched 2.2 innings for Towson, allowing no runs on three hits with three strikeouts and two walks allowed.
- Jordan Luton relieved Spencer in the eighth and allowed a two-run home run to right field to give the Owls an 8-1 edge.
- With no runs in the ninth, the game went final 8-1 in favor of Florida Atlantic.
