GREENVILLE, N.C. – Towson softball dropped the opener of the Pirate Invitational, 9-2 against host East Carolina on Friday night. Towson would take an early lead in the game, but the Pirates held the Tigers to just three hits the rest of the way.
Towson (3-7) got a home run in the second at bat of the game with
Mackenzie Lake drilling a two-run home run to left to give the Tigers an early lead. Her home run was one of her two hits in the contest.
Key Stats:
- Lake was the lone Tiger with multiple hits going 2-3 from the dish with two RBIs.
- Grace Franczyk and Sydni Byers also recorded hits off the bench for the Tigers.
How It Happened:
- Towson got out to a quick start in the first. Elizabeth Yoskowitz led off the game reaching on an error. Mackenzie Lake would come up next and rip a two-run home run down the left field line to give the Tigers a quick 2-0 lead.
- The Pirates would respond with a three-run inning in the second and would add another in the third to take a 4-2 lead.
- East Carolina would continue to add to their lead by scoring runs in the fourth and fifth to make it a 7-2 deficit for the Tigers.
- Towson would threaten in the sixth. Sydni Byers would lead off the inning with a pinch hit single. Lake would follow up with a single of her own to left to put a pair of runners on. However, both runners would be stranded.
- The Tigers would get a runner in the seventh on a Grace Franczyk single but the Tigers fell 9-2 on Friday night against the Pirates.

- The Tigers will continue their weekend down in North Carolina with contests against the Pirates and North Carolina Central tomorrow, Saturday, Feb. 24 at 2 and 4 p.m. The game against the Pirates will air on ESPN+.
