HAMPTON, Va. – The Towson University men's and women's swimming & diving teams completed day one of the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) Championships Wednesday evening at the Hampton Aquaplex in Hampton, Virginia.
The UNCW women lead the standings with 120 points. Delaware (112) and Northeastern (108) round out the podium. William & Mary sits in front of the Towson with 106 points and the Tigers finished the first day with 102 points. Drexel (100), Campbell (92), Monmouth (88) and Stony Brook (80) complete the standings.
UNCW's men are atop of the leaderboard after the first day with 114 points. Delaware is ahead of Towson with 111 and the Tigers hold third with 98 points. Drexel (89), William & Mary (56) and Monmouth (52) round out the pack.
Day One Highlights:
- Ally Frame, Tiffany Matulis, Riley Willett and Claire Ryland finished fifth in the 200-medley relay with a time of 1:40.62.
- Evan Bota, Brian Benzing, Benjamin Eischeid and Daniel McLaughlin picked up the first medal of the meet for Towson with a third-place finish in the 200-medley relay, clocking in at 1:25.58.
- Aidan Clark narrowly missed the podium in the 1-meter board, taking fourth place with a score of 293.20.
- Addie Scott, Janine Murphy, Marissa Kleckner and Bridget Thomas just missed the podium in the 800-free relay with a mark of 7:22.80.
- Benzing, Stephen McDonald, Sean Colson and Luke Schwar won gold in the 800-free relay with a time of 6:24.96, setting a new school record in the event. Brian Benzing's lead-off leg of 1:34.55 set the CAA meet and all-time record for the 200 free.
On Deck:
Day two's action starts tomorrow with preliminary swim heats beginning at 10:00 a.m. Preliminary dives are scheduled for 12:30 p.m. and the evening's finals session is slated for 6:00 p.m.
