TOWSON, Md. – Towson softball battled back from an early deficit to take a lead, but the Bison scored three unanswered runs to defeat the Tigers 5-4 on Thursday. Sophomore
Grace Franczyk led the Tigers going 1-2 from the plate with a home run and two RBIs.
Towson (5-10) took a slim 3-2 lead in the third, but three straight from the Bison late in the game gave Towson a 5-4 loss in their home opener.
Key Stats:
- Seven different Tigers recorded a hit on Thursday with Cori Jones and Grace Franczyk each recording extra base hits with Jones hitting a double and Franczyk a solo home run.
- Franczyk led the way with two RBIs with Ally Hickman and Brooke Zuber also driving in a run.
How It Happened:
- Howard struck first getting a pair of runs in the first inning to take an early 2-0 lead.
- Towson would respond in the bottom of the second. Grace Franczyk belted a solo home run to cut the deficit in half.
- The Tigers would take the lead in the third with a pair of runs. Cori Jones led off the inning with a double and would later score on a bases loaded hit by pitch drawn by Ally Hickman.
- Just two batters later, freshman Brooke Zuber singled home Franczyk who walked early in the inning to give Towson a 3-2 lead.
- That lead would be short lived as the Bison tied it in the fourth. The Bison would add two more in the fifth to retake a 5-3 lead.
- Towson would have chances late in the fifth and sixth, but could not complete the comeback in a 5-4 loss against Howard.

- Towson will continue their home stretch with a pair of games on Friday, March 1 as part of the TU DeMarini Tiger Clash. Towson will play Providence at 12:30 p.m. and UMass Lowell at 3 p.m. at Tiger Softball Stadium.
