DOVER, Del. – Towson softball picked up a 4-2 win in their first midweek contest of the season against Delaware State on Wednesday afternoon. Starter
Maddie Gardner recorded ten strikeouts, her first double digit strikeout game since last season and her fifth as a Tiger.
Towson (9-13) held the Hornets (6-9) at bay for most of the game, with
Elizabeth Yoskowitz driving in a pair of runs in the fifth with
Sydni Byers driving in the game winning run in the sixth.
Key Stats:
- Yoskowitz led the Tigers with a pair of RBIs with Byers and Addie Ferguson each driving in a run.
- Cori Jones, Ferguson, and Byers each had a pair of hits.
- Starter Maddie Gardner worked five innings, scattering three hits and allowing one run with 10 strikeouts.
How It Happened:
- Neither side could get much going early on with the Tigers having the first real threat in the fourth. Cori Jones led off with a single and got all the way to third but would be stranded on base.
- The Tigers would strike in the fifth. Alyssa Myint led off with a walk and got to second after an Isabella Canesi single. Both would come around to score on a Yoskowitz single to give Towson a 2-0 lead.
- Delaware State would score in their half of the fifth, but Towson had the answer in the sixth.
- Addie Ferguson led off with a single. Sydni Byers would come up next and drive in Macie Jacquet who pinch ran for Ferguson to make it 3-1. Towson would add an insurance run in the seventh with Ferguson doubling home Yoskowitz to make it 4-1.
- The Tigers would hold off a late Hornets charge to win 4-2 on Wednesday.
Inside The Numbers:
- Maddie Gardner recorded a ten-strikeout performance for the fifth time in her Towson career and first this season. Her last 10-plus punch out game was back on April 30, 2023, against Stony Brook.
On Deck:
- Towson will continue their road swing with a three-game CAA set this weekend against Campbell this Friday-Sunday in Buies Creek. The Camels and Tigers will play one game each day with Friday starting at 5 p.m., Saturday at 3 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m. on FloSoftball.
