Marshall Moves into Top 20 On All-Time Goals List After Hat Trick Versus Stony Brook

TOWSON, Md. –  The Towson University women's lacrosse team went toe-to-toe with No. 11/12 Stony Brook before dropping a hard-fought 11-8 decision Saturday afternoon at Tiger Field in the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) opener for both teams.

Lindsey Marshall scored three goals for Towson and moved into a tie for 19th place on the all-time goal list with 95. This was the 19th career hat trick for the senior.

Hannah Delahaye had a pair of first quarter goals as the home team trailed 3-2 after the opening quarter. Trailing 6-2, the Tigers scored two times in the final 2:30 of the half to go into halftime down 6-4. Marshall scored twice in the third quarter as the game remained close after 30 minutes.

Goals by Halley Koras and Marshall tied the game at 8-all with 12:02 remaining in the game. Towson had a chance to take the lead, but Delahaye was denied by Stony Brook keeper Emily Manning with 10:44 remaining.

After Stony Brook scored to make it 9-8, Towson had multiple chances to tie but could not find the back of the net. The Seawolves scored twice in the final 70 seconds for the three-goal advantage.

"Overall, it was a really good team effort. There were lots of improvement and lots of great takeaways," Towson head coach Kristen Carr said. "We constantly talk about the journey with our team. Every time we have a game, we look to grow between every quarter and stacking moment by moment to get to the end result."

Four of Towson's first seven games have bene against ranked opponents: James Madison (Feb. 22), Southern California (March 1), Loyola (March 9) and Stony Brook (March 16).
