Baseball Falls at No. 9 Duke

DURHAM, N.C. – Towson baseball (4-15) faced the No. 9 Duke Blue Devils (16-5) Tuesday evening, falling 12-2 in eight innings at Jack Coombs Field in Durham, N.C.
 
Duke took a four-run lead in the second inning on three hits. The Blue Devils added another in the third on a wild pitch. In the third, fielding errors cost Towson three more runs to make it a 8-0 game. Jeremy Wagner put the Tigers on the board in the sixth inning with a two-run double to left center field. A two-run homer to right field extended the Blue Devil lead to eight runs again. Yu's two-run home run to left field in the eighth sent the game to a 12-2 final in eight frames.
 
Key Stats:
  • Towson starter Andrew Luczak (0-1) took the loss, allowing four earned runs on four hits in the 1.1 inning stint. Luczak issued three walks and struck out two batters.
  • Duke starter David Boisvert (2-0) registered the win in his hitless 3.0 frame appearance. Boisvert fanned four batters.
 
How it Happened:
  • Duke took the lead with four runs on three hits in the second inning. A single with runners on first and second started the scoring. An errant throw on a pickoff attempt allowed the second run before a sacrifice fly tacked on another. Later in the inning, a ground-rule double plated the fourth run of the frame.
  • The Blue Devils pushed the lead to five in the bottom of the third, scoring on a wild pitch.
  • Fielding errors cost the Tigers three more runs in the third inning, giving Duke an 8-0 lead.
  • With runners on second and third in the sixth inning, Jeremy Wagner knocked a two-RBI double to left center to put Towson on the board.
  • In the seventh, Obee's leadoff single to right field set up Krewson's homer to right to make it a 10-2 game.
  • In the eighth, Yu's two-run home run to left field sent the game to a 12-2 final.
