Byers Drives in Two in a 12-4 Loss Against George Mason

TOWSON, Md. – Towson softball suffered a 12-4 setback against George Mason on Wednesday afternoon at Tiger Softball Stadium. Junior Sydni Byers led the Tigers with a pair of hits and two RBIs in the loss.

Towson (11-16) fell behind early but battled back in the early innings against the Patriots (9-18).

Key Stats:
  • Byers went 2-3 from the plate with two RBIs both coming in the first inning.
  • Cara Bohner was a perfect 3-3 from the dish with a run scored and an RBI. Cori Jones scored two of the four Tiger runs in the contest.
How It Happened:
  • George Mason got out to an early start putting up seven runs in the first inning to take an early lead.
  • Towson would respond in their half of the first. Cori Jones reached on a fielder's choice and would move to second on a Cara Bohner single to left. Sydni Byers would bring both runners home on a single to right center to cut the deficit to 7-2.
  • After the Patriots added two in the second, Towson got a run back in their half of the inning. Naila Neely led off the inning with a single and advanced on a walk. Mackenzie Lake would bring her home on an RBI single to left to make it 10-3.
  • However, George Mason would score two more in the fourth to extend the lead to 12-3.
  • Towson battled back in the fifth. Cori Jones led off with a double and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Just two pitches later, Cara Bohner ripped a single to right to plate Jones.
  • However, that would be all the Tigers would get as the Patriots defeated the Tigers 12-4 in five innings.
On Deck:
  • Towson will continue their home stand with a three-game CAA series against conference leader UNCW this Friday, Saturday and Sunday. First pitch on Friday is slated for 2 p.m. on FloSoftball.
