TOWSON, Md. – Towson softball fell in both games of a double header today against the UNCW Seahawks. Towson had to battle back from a deficit in game one to tie it late, but ultimately fell 2-1. In the nightcap, UNCW jumped out to an early lead to hold off the Tigers 5-1.
Towson (11-18, 3-5 CAA) had RBIs from
Cori Jones and
Mackenzie Lake in the losses to the Seahawks (17-11, 8-0 CAA).
GAME ONE: UNCW 2, Towson 1
Key Stats:
- There were five combined errors in game one with just three total hits. Cori Jones had a hit and an RBI in the loss while Elizabeth Yoskowitz provided the other hit for the Tigers.
- Starter Maddie Gardner threw a complete game allowing just one hit with five strikeouts.
How It Happened:
- After Maddie Gardner threw a perfect first inning, Towson threatened in their half. Cori Jones ripped a single up the middle followed by a hit by pitch for Cara Bohner. Both would advance on a passed ball, but the inning would end on a pop up.
- Both teams would struggle to get anything going over the next three innings. Towson would threaten again however in the fourth.
- Sydni Byers reached on a fielder's choice and worked to third with two outs. However, a strikeout ended the threat as the game remained scoreless.
- UNCW got on the board first in the fifth with a sacrifice fly to give them a 1-0 lead.
- Towson responded quickly in the bottom of the frame. Elizabeth Yoskowitz singled to third and worked to third on a wild pitch and fielding error. Cori Jones would drive her in just pitches later after another error tied it at 1-1.
- The Seahawks would throw the final punch with a solo home run in the seventh to take a 2-1 lead. That would prove to be the winning run as Towson fell 2-1 in game one.
GAME TWO: UNCW 5, Towson 1

How It Happened:
- UNCW got out to an early lead, putting up three runs in the top of the first. Cori Jones would reach on an infield single in the bottom of the inning, but she would be stranded on base.
- Neither side would get much going through the second and third innings. UNCW would add on another run with a home run in the fourth and RBI double in the fifth.
- Towson would get on the board in the sixth. Kellie Zoerb led off the inning with a bloop single to left. Lake would then come up and smash an RBI double into the left field gap to make it 5-1.
- However, that would be as close as the Tigers would get as the Seahawks would win game two 5-1.
