TOWSON, Md. – Towson softball handed UNCW their first conference loss of the season with a 2-1 win on Sunday afternoon. The Tigers snapped a four-game losing streak behind a two-RBI triple from
Cori Jones and a complete game from
Maddie Gardner against the Seahawks.
Towson (12-18, 4-5 CAA) scored twice in the third against UNCW (17-12, 8-1 CAA) and held off a late rally in the win.
Maddie Gardner earned the win in her second complete game of the weekend.
Key Stats:
- Cori Jone led the Tigers collecting two hits for Towson in the contest. She had a single and an RBI triple.
- Elizabeth Yoskowitz also had a single for the Tigers.
- Maddie Gardner threw her second complete game of the weekend to earn her fourth win of the year. She scattered five hits with three strikeouts in the win.
How It Happened:
- Gardner had to work around a pair of two-out walks in the first to keep the Seahawks off the board. Cori Jones would reach on a single in the bottom of the inning and advance on a throwing error, but she would be stranded on base.
- Towson would strike first in the bottom of the third. Mackenzie Lake drew a two-out walk and advanced to second on a Yoskowitz single to short.
- Cori Jones would then step up and smash a two-RBI triple to dead center to put Towson in front.
- The Seahawks would respond in the fifth with an RBI single to cut the Tiger lead to 2-1. Kellie Zoerb would end the inning with a great diving catch in center field that saved the game-tying run.
- The Tigers would take that lead into the seventh, where Maddie Gardner once again worked around two walks to seal the victory for Towson.

- Towson head coach Lisa Costello won her 798th career game and is now just two wins away from 800 for her career.
On Deck:
