Towson Tennis Set to Play Three Matches this Week

TOWSON, Md.- The Towson University Tigers tennis team resumes action with three matches across the next five days. The Black & Gold start at home against CAA foe Monmouth on Tuesday afternoon, then will play Salisbury on Friday afternoon, before closing out the week with a Saturday matchup against Johns Hopkins at the Tiger Tennis Complex.

Schedule Update
Towson's match against Hampton on Thursday, March 28th will be moved to April 15th due to inclement weather in the Hampton area. The match will now take place at the Tiger Tennis Complex at 2 p.m. instead of at Hampton.  
                                                                                                  
New Facess
The Black & Gold welcome three new players for this upcoming season with two freshmen and one senior transfer. Ashira Murray comes to Towson after playing across the pond in England, while Chandrè Boshoff comes over from South Africa. Mya Spencer joins the Tigers after playing three seasons as Saint Louis and is a Bowie, Maryland native. Spencer totaled 37 singles wins and 35 doubles wins for the Billikens.                                                                                                                                                                       

Fall Recap 
Towson competed in five tournaments during the fall season. The Tigers started with three wins in the Towson Hidden Dual Tournament. At the Tribe Invitational, the Tigers picked up five wins with Mya Spencer winning a consolation bracket championship. Towson competed in the Navy Blue & Gold Invitational next. The Tigers totaled two singles wins and one doubles victory. The Black & Gold went down the road and took part in the Greyhounds Women's Tennis Classic. Towson picked up 11 victories as three doubles pairs reached their respective finals. The Tigers closed out the fall season at the ITA Atlantic Regional.

Last Week Recap
The Black & Gold traveled to South Carolina to take on the College of Charleston. The duo of Mya Spencer and Sania Suchinsky won their doubles match 6-2, but the Tigers fell 7-0 to the Cougars.

Monmouth Scouting Report
The Hawks have a 1-10 record with an 0-2 mark in the CAA. Monmouth opened its season with a 6-1 win over Wagner. The Hawks then lost their next four matches 5-2 to Lehigh, Sacred Heart, Lafayette and Seton Hall. Monmouth fell to Bryant and Stony Brook 6-1, before being swept by Delaware. The Hawks lost to St. John's 5-1, then lost to Army, before dropping a 4-3 contest to Villanova.  

Salisbury Scouting Report
The Sea Gulls have an 8-2 overall record so far. Salisbury opened the season with a 9-0 sweep against Catholic and a 7-1 win over Shenandoah. The Sea Gulls fell to Sweet Briar 6-3, but bounced back with a 5-4 win against Washington (Md.). Salisbury defeated Stevens 6-3, then picked up a 7-2 victory over York (Pa.). The Sea Gulls won 8-1 over Virginia Wesleyan, but lost to Piedmont 7-2. Salisbury won its two most recent matches, picking up a 5-4 win against Berry (Ga.) and a 9-0 sweep versus Covenant (Ga.). The Sea Gulls will play St. Mary's (Md.), before playing the Tigers.

Johns Hopkins Scouting Report
The Blue Jays have accumulated an 9-4 record with a 2-0 record in the Centennial. Johns Hopkins opened the season with an 8-1 win against NC Wesleyan, then defeated Christopher Newport 7-2. The Blue Jays started conference play with a 9-0 sweep against Muhlenberg, then defeated Lehigh 4-3. Hopkins swept both Franklin & Marshall and Denison, before falling to Washington Lee 5-4. The Blue Jays bounced back with a 4-3 victory against Emory, then fell to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, 6-1, and Pomona-Pitzer, 4-0. Johns Hopkins picked up a 4-3 victory against West Florida and a 7-2 win versus Tufts. Most recently, the Blue Jays lost to Emory 7-2.

Towson will host Saint Francis U on Wednesday, April 3rd at 3 p.m. at the Tiger Tennis Complex.
