TOWSON, Md. – Towson University baseball (6-19, 1-3 CAA) faced Hofstra (9-16, 1-3 CAA) Friday afternoon, taking down the Pride handily, 10-5, at John B. Schuerholz Park.
The Tigers' bats stayed hot Friday afternoon, with the Tigers coming up with three big innings in the series opener vs. the Pride. Towson opened their lead with three runs in the third. Hofstra got one run back in the sixth before the Tigers added three more in the home half. Hofstra added one more in the seventh before Towson pushed their run total to ten in the bottom half. The Pride added three runs in the final two frames, but not enough to extend the game for the Towson victory, 10-5.
Key Stats:
- Towson reliever Justin Rebok (1-2) recorded the win, allowing two earned runs on one hit and three walks issued in his 3.0 inning start. Rebok fanned three batters.
- Hofstra starter Michael O'Hanlon (2-2) registered the loss with six runs, five earned, on nine hits in his 6.0 inning start. O'Hanlon issued three walks and struck out five.
- Towson outhit Hofstra 13-6 on the afternoon, with five Tigers picking up multiple hits.
How it Happened:
- Towson opened the scoring in the bottom of the third inning on four hits. Back-to-back bunt singles put two runners on base, setting up Bryce Frederick's RBI single to left. Janove's single to centerfield two batters later plated two more runs for the Tigers.
- Hofstra got on the board in the top of the sixth, scoring a run on a sacrifice fly.
- The Tigers added three in the home half, starting with Taye Robinson's RBI double to right with runners on the corners scoring one. Cole Stefano singled up the middle on the following at-bat to make it a 6-1 game.
- Another sacrifice fly in the top of the seventh pulled the Pride within four.
- The Black & Gold added four more in the bottom half on four hits. Stefano's triple to right center brought in two. Bryce Frederick doubled to center on the following at-bat for the ninth Tiger run. Dickerson followed with a hard-hit single to first base for the tenth run.
- In the eighth, Steve Harrington singled up the middle, adding a third run for Hofstra.
- Sweeney's two-run homer to right field in the ninth pulled the Pride within five. Jordan Luton forced ground outs on the next two at-bats for a 10-5 Towson victory.
Inside the Numbers:
- Stefano had a career-high four RBIs on the afternoon. He's had multiple hits in three of his last five games played.
- Four more Tigers picked up multiple hits in the victory: Frederick, Janove, Jordan Peyton and Taye Robinson.
