Cori Jones Drives in Four Runs to Lead Towson Softball to Friday Split Against Hofstra

TOWSON, Md. – Towson softball picked up a split against the defending CAA champions on Friday afternoon. The Tigers fell in game one but bounced back in the nightcap thanks to a four-RBI game from Cori Jones in a 6-1 win.

Towson (8-12, 1-1 CAA) jumped on the Pride (3-11, 1-1 CAA) early in game two with a three-run first inning and never looked back.

GAME ONE: Hofstra 8, Towson 1
Key Stats: How It Happened:
  • The Pride got out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first thanks to a first inning home run. That lead would extend to three with another run in the third.
  • Towson would break through in the fifth. Isabella Canesi led off the inning with a single down the right field line. She would advance on a Lake single and later score after Yoskowitz grounded out to second to make it 3-1.
  • However, Hofstra would add three in the six and two in the seventh to defeat the Tigers 8-1 in game one.
GAME TWO: Towson 6, Hofstra 1
Key Stats:
  • The bats came alive in game two with three Tigers recording multiple hits. Mackenzie Lake went a perfect 4-4 from the plate with a double and three singles.
  • Cori Jones had a pair of hits with four RBIs. Addie Ferguson also had a pair of hits.
  • Starter Amanda Medina picked up her second win of the season with a strong outing. Medina threw 6.0 innings, scattering five hits with one run given up.
How It Happened:
  • Towson wasted little time getting things started with a three-run first inning. Mackenzie Lake led off with a double and would later score on a Cori Jones RBI triple that also scored Elizabeth Yoskowitz. Jones would score just pitches later on a Cara Bohner RBI ground out to make it 3-0.
  • The Pride would get a run back in the second, but that would be all Amanda Medina would allow, holding the Pride scoreless the rest of the way.
  • The Tigers added a run in the fourth on a Jones sacrifice fly that scored Brooke Zuber.
  • Isabella Canesi added insurance with a monster solo home run in the fifth, and Jones drove in her fourth run of the game in the sixth on an RBI double.
  • Maddie Gardner would come on in the seventh and strike out a pair to close the door on a 6-1 win.
On Deck:
  • The Tigers and Pride will conclude the series on Sunday, Mar. 10 at 1 p.m.
