TOWSON, Md. – Towson softball used a second inning home run from
Kristin Toland and a strong pitching performance from
Erin Brown in a 3-0 win against Coppin State on Tuesday. The Tigers retired seven straight in the middle innings against the Eagles.
Towson (17-26) concluded their homestand with a win thanks to six hits including a pair from
Grace Franczyk in the win.
Key Stats:
- Toland got things started for the Tigers with a solo home run in the second inning.
- Franczyk had a pair of hits and an RBI in the sixth. Cara Bohner also had a hit and an RBI for the Tigers.
- Cori Jones and Sydni Byers also recorded hits on Tuesday.
- Erin Brown picked up the win in six innings of relief on Tuesday. Brown scattered five hits issuing one walk with no runs.
How It Happened:
- Both teams struggled to get any offense going early on with both pitching staffs settling in early.
- Kristin Toland gave the Tigers an early 1-0 lead with a solo home run to right center in the second inning. The blast was her third home run of the season.
- The Eagles would get a runner to third in the fourth inning, but the Brown got a ground out to end the threat.
- The Tigers would add to their run total in the sixth. Sydni Byers led off the inning with a pinch hit single to center. After Elizabeth Yoskowitz re-entered and stole second, Cara Bohner laced an RBI single to center to make it 2-0.
- Grace Franczyk then came up and singled home Bohner, working to third on an error to give Towson a 3-0 lead.
- Brown would come on and retire the side in the seventh, getting a double play to end the game giving Towson a 3-0 win.

- The Tigers will head to New Jersey this weekend for a key CAA series against Monmouth. All three games against the Hawks will air on FloSoftball.
