TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University baseball team (10-26, 3-9 CAA) played Coppin State (9-20, 8-10 NEC) Wednesday afternoon, holding on for a 7-6 victory over the Eagles at John B. Schuerholz Park.
The teams battled back and forth with the Eagles posting two runs in the top of the second. The Tigers responded in the bottom half with three runs to take the lead. Coppin State tied it in the next frame before Towson retook a one-run advantage in the bottom of the third. A sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fourth gave Towson the lead again. Bryce Frederick knocking in the Tigers' seventh run on a triple to center field.
Max Simpson nailed down the save in his final clean frame to secure the 7-6 victory at Schuerholz Park.
Key Stats:
- Towson reliever Brandon Jung (1-0) recorded the win, allowing one earned run on two hits and one walk, adding one strikeout in the 1.2 frame outing. Max Simpson registered his second save of the season in one clean frame, adding one strikeout to end the game.
- Coppin State starter Giovanni Canales (0-2) took the loss, allowing seven earned runs on six hits and nine free passes in the 5.0 inning start.
- Two Tigers picked up multiple hits in the game, with Jordan Peyton batting 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored and Bryce Frederick batting 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored.
How it Happened:
- Coppin State took the lead in the second inning thanks to Angel Colon's two-run home run to left field.
- In the home half, a walk and two hit batters loaded the bases. A pair of wild pitches allowed the Tigers to tie the game. Later in the frame, Jordan Peyton beat out the throw on an infield single to short, allowing a third run to score.
- In the next frame, Damon Gaither homered to right field to tie the game.
- Jeremy Wagner singled through the right side with a runner on second in the bottom half, giving the Tigers the lead again.
- Towson extended the lead to two runs in the bottom of the fourth, courtesy of Elijah Dickerson's sacrifice fly.
- With runners on second and third in the top of the fifth, Chris Marte singled through the right side, scoring a run. Daniel Moore followed with a sacrifice bunt to tie the game. Colon singled to left on the following at-bat to give the Eagles a one-run lead but was tagged out at second to end the frame.
- The final two and a half frames of the game were scoreless, with the Eagles leaving two base runners on in that stretch. Max Simpson recorded his second save of the season in one clean frame.
Inside the Numbers:
- Peyton recorded his ninth multi-hit game of the season and Frederick picked up his eighth.
- Brandon Jung recorded his first collegiate win in the 1.2 inning appearance.

The Tigers are back to Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) play this weekend on the road vs. Stony Brook in a three-game weekend series starting Friday.
