STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The Towson University baseball team (10-27, 3-10 CAA) returned to Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) play vs. Stony Brook (18-17, 7-6 CAA), falling 4-2 to the Seawolves Friday afternoon at Joe Nathan Field in New York.
Towson put two runs on the board in the top of the first to take an early lead. Stony Brook answered back in the third, posting three runs on one hit and an error in the frame. The Seawolves added a run in the sixth on two hits, making it 4-2.
Bryce Frederick led off the top of the ninth with a double down the left field line, but the Tigers couldn't put any runs across for a 4-2 final.
Key Stats:
- Towson starter Andrew Luczak (0-5) took the loss, allowing four runs, one earned, on four hits and seven free passes in the 5.0 inning start.
- Stony Brook starter Eddie Smink (5-4) recorded the win, allowing two earned runs on four hits and three walks in the 6.0 inning start. Smink added five strikeouts. Relief pitcher Erik Paulsen (5) registered the save.
How it Happened:
- Towson took the lead in the top of the first inning. After Cole Stefano's lead-off bunt single, Elijah Dickerson's single and Bryce Frederick's walk loaded the bases. Josh Janove hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score the first. Jordan Peyton followed with a single through the left side to make it 2-0.
- Stony Brook took a one-run lead in the third inning. With runners on first and second, an errant throw on a bunt allowed a run to score. A ground-out to follow tied the game. Later in the frame, a single to center field gave the Seawolves a one-run lead.
- In the bottom of the sixth, Evan Fox hit a single to center field with runners on second and third to extend the Stony Brook lead to 4-2.
- The Tigers notched one hit in the final three frames but didn't convert any runs for a 4-2 final.
