Seventh Inning Rally Lifts Towson Softball to 6-5 Win at Monmouth

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – A four-run seventh inning with their backs against the wall gave Towson a 6-5 comeback win on Sunday against Monmouth. The Tigers took an early lead before both teams traded the lead the rest of the way.

Towson (19-27, 8-13 CAA) saw their offense explode for 11 hits on Sunday, being able to capitalize on three errors from Monmouth (15-30, 7-13 CAA).

Key Stats: How It Happened:
  • Both starting pitchers got off to fast starts with just one hit through the first two innings combined.
  • Towson finally broke through in the third. Naila Neely doubled to right center and advanced on a ground out. She would score on the next pitch on a wild pitch to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead.
  • Monmouth would put a pair on in the bottom of the inning, but Towson starter Erin Brown would end the threat with a pop out.
  • The Hawks would retake the lead in the fourth with a two-RBI triple to take a 2-1 lead into the fifth.
  • The Tigers found the answer in the sixth. Cara Bohner reached on a single and came around to score on a Grace Franczyk RBI double to tie it at 2-2.
  • After the Hawks took a 5-2 lead in the sixth, the Tiger rallied back in the seventh. Elizabeth Yoskowitz led off with a single that was followed by singles from Mackenzie Lake and Cara Bohner to load the bases. Kristin Toland reached on an error that scored Yoskowitz to make it 5-3.
  • A wild pitch allowed Lake to score with Bohner and Toland coming around to score off a fielding error to make it a 6-5 Tiger lead.
  • Reliever Faith McCullough came on in the seventh and slammed the door shut on the Hawks to give Towson a 6-5 comeback win on Sunday to win the series.
On Deck:
  • Towson will enter the penultimate week of play with two midweek games. The Tigers will host Georgetown on Tuesday, Apr. 23 at 3 p.m. before traveling to Maryland on Wednesday, Apr. 24 at 6 p.m.
