Towson Softball Downs Georgetown 5-1 on Tuesday Afternoon

TOWSON, Md. – Towson softball won their fourth in their last five games with a 5-1 win against the Hoyas on Tuesday night. Towson put up four runs in the fourth inning to pull away from Georgetown late in the contest.

Towson (20-27) got four scoreless innings of relief from Erin Brown for the win against the Hoyas (12-28). The Tigers exploded for four runs in the fourth to break a tie and pull away for the win.

Key Stats: How It Happened:
  • Towson wasted little time getting things started. Towson loaded the bases on a triple and pair of walks. Cara Bohner came up and drove in a run on a fielder's choice that scored Cori Jones to give Towson an early 1-0 lead.
  • Georgetown would tie it in the third capitalizing on a Tiger error to make it 1-1.
  • The Tigers pull ahead of the Hoyas for good in the fourth. Cara Bohner led off with a single and scored just three pitches later on a Grace Franczyk double to left to make it 2-1. Franczyk would later score on a throwing error on a stolen base from Isabella Canesi to increase the lead to 3-1.
  • Sydni Byers then scored Canesi on a single up the middle to extend the lead to 4-1 before Cori Jones ripped a single to plate Byers and make it 5-1 Towson.
  • That would be all the Tigers would need as reliever Erin Brown retired ten straight batters, giving up a single in the seventh with the Tigers defeating Georgetown 5-1 on Tuesday.
On Deck:
  • The Tigers will continue their busy week at Maryland on Wednesday, Apr. 24. First pitch in College Park is slated for 6 p.m. on Big Ten Plus.
