WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The Towson University baseball team returned to Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) play vs. William & Mary Friday evening at Plumeri Park. The Tigers (13-37, 3-18 CAA) fell 8-5 to the Tribe (28-21, 11-11 CAA) in Williamsburg, Va.
William & Mary started the scoring in the bottom of the first with two runs on one hit and an error. Towson responded in the top of the second, scoring on a throwing error to cut the deficit to one. The Tigers tied the game in the top of the fourth on
Jack Lawrence's RBI single through the left side. The Tribe retook a one-run lead in the home half on a sacrifice fly to center field. Another sacrifice fly in the sixth extended the Tribe's lead to two. In the bottom of the eighth, a bases-loaded hit batter pushed William & Mary's lead to 5-2. The Tigers put two runners on base in the bottom of the ninth, but the final two batters were retired for a 5-2 final at Plumeri Park.
Key Stats:
- Towson reliever Bobby Spencer (1-2) took the loss with one earned run allowed on three hits and one hit batter in 2.0 innings of work.
- William & Mary starter Nate Knowles (7-2) earned the win, allowing two runs, one earned, on three hits and two walks issued in 6.1 innings pitched.
How it Happened:
- In the bottom of the first, a walk and hit batter put the first two runners on base for the Tribe. Delossantos' double through the left side scored the first run of the game for the Tribe. Later in the frame, an error allowed another run to score for a 2-0 edge.
- With Taye Robinson on second in the top of the second, Cole Stefano laid down a sacrifice bunt and reached on a throwing error, allowing Robinson to score.
- Jack Lawrence hit an RBI single through the left side with runners on first and second to tie the game in the top of the fourth.
- The Tribe retook a one-run lead on a sacrifice fly in the bottom half. Bobby Spencer stranded two runners to end the frame.
- With runners on second and third in the home half of the sixth, Delossantos' sacrifice fly to center field extended the Tribe's lead to two.
- A bases-loaded hit batter in the bottom of the eighth pushed the Tribe's lead to 5-2.
- The Tigers got two runners on base in the top of the ninth before the final two batters were retired for a 5-2 final at Plumeri Park.
