Towson Softball Defeats Hampton, 6-5 on Thursday Afternoon

HAMPTON, Va. – Towson softball picked up a 6-5 win to snap a four-game losing skid on Thursday afternoon. Cara Bohner drove in a pair of runs, including a solo home run with Grace Franczyk also drove in two runs in the win.

Towson (21-31, 9-16 CAA) also got a big contribution from freshman Taylor Broadbent who went 3-4 from the plate with a run scored.

Key Stats:
  • Bohner and Franczyk each drove in two runs with Bohner smashing a solo home run.
  • Broadbent went 3-4 from the plate as six different Tigers recorded a hit in the win.
  • Amanda Medina picked up her fourth win of the season going two innings of relief with two strikeouts. Faith McCullough earned her second save of the year throwing two scoreless innings.
How It Happened:
  • Towson wasted little time scoring first, pushing a run across in the top of the first. Elizabeth Yoskowitz led off with a single and stole second on a delayed steal. She would advance score after Cori Jones reached on an error in left field to give the Tigers the early lead.
  • After the Pirates tied the game in the bottom of the first, Cara Bohner put Towson back in front in the third. Cori Jones ripped a two-out double and would come around to score on a Cara Bohner RBI single down the left field line.
  • Grace Franczyk then came up and smacked a two-RBI double to left to make it 4-1 with Mackenzie Lake and Bohner scoring.
  • Cara Bohner got a run back in the fifth with a leadoff solo home run to push the advantage to 5-3.
  • Hampton would cut into the Tiger lead once again in the bottom of the fifth, getting a two-run home run to make it 6-5.
  • However, Faith McCullough would come in an close the door with a six-out save to give Towson a 6-5 win on Thursday.

  • Game two of the three-game series with the Lady Pirates is slated for Friday, May 3. First pitch is at 1 p.m. and will air on FloSoftball.
