TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University baseball team faced George Mason on Wednesday afternoon in the final mid-week game of the season. The Tigers (13-36) topped the Patriots (20-27) 8-5 at John B. Schuerholz Park.
George Mason scored first in the top of the fourth with one run. The Tigers responded in the home half with five runs on four hits, highlighted by
Jack Lawrence's two-run home run. The Patriots scored three runs on three hits in the next frame to pull within a run. Quinn-Irons' solo home run in the top of the sixth tied the game at five.
Jordan Peyton gave the Tigers the lead again in the home half on a sacrifice fly.
Taye Robinson's lead-off home run in the seventh extended the Towson lead. Peyton picked up his third RBI of the game on an RBI single to left field, pushing the lead to three.
Ryder Jeske stranded two runners in the top of the ninth to secure the 8-5 victory in favor of the Tigers in the final mid-week game of 2024.
Key Stats:
- Towson reliever Brett Seils (1-5) earned his first win of the season with one earned run allowed on three hits in 1.2 innings of work. Seils added two strikeouts. Ryder Jeske earned his first collegiate save, with one hit and one walk allowed in 1.0 inning, adding one strikeout.
- George Mason starter Kyle Menaker (1-2) took the loss with three earned runs allowed on seven hits in 3.0 innings pitched. Menaker struck out one batter.
- The Tigers outhit the Patriots 13-7 in the game, with five Tigers picking up multiple hits. Jordan Peyton led the way, finishing the day 4-for-4 with three RBIs.
How it Happened:
- In the top of the fourth, a single and wild pitch moved a runner into scoring position. Dykstra singled up the middle to put the Patriots on the board first.
- In the bottom half, Taye Robinson's lead-off single preceded Jack Lawrence's two-run home run to left field to give Towson the lead. With runners on second and third later in the frame, a wild pitch extended the lead. Elijah Dickerson's groundout to second base drove in another run, moving Casey Bishop to third. Jordan Peyton followed with an RBI triple to right center to make it a 5-1 game.
- With the bases loaded in the top of the fifth, Wood's single through the right side scored two. Trimble followed with a single through the left side, pulling George Mason within one run.
- The Patriots tied the game in the top of the sixth on a solo home run off the bat of Quinn-Irons.
- With the bases loaded in the bottom half, Jordan Peyton hit a sacrifice fly to center field to give the Tigers a one-run lead.
- Robinson led off the bottom of the seventh with a solo homer to left field to push the lead to two.
- Peyton picked up his third RBI of the game on a single to left field in the bottom of the eighth, driving in Jeremy Wagner from third.
- Ryder Jeske stranded two runners in the top of the ninth to pick up his first collegiate save and secure the 8-5 victory for the Tigers.
Inside the Numbers:
- Dickerson extended his team-leading hitting streak to nine games. Peyton extended his to eight, marking the second longest streak of any Tiger this season behind Dickerson.
- Peyton picked up his team-leading tenth multiple RBI game of the season. Jack Lawrence picked up his first of the 2024 campaign.
- Seils recorded his first win in six decisions this season. Jeske picked up his first collegiate save in the final frame of the game.
