Six Tigers Find the Back of the Net as Towson Women’s Soccer Defeats Delaware State

DOVER, Del. – The Towson University soccer team took on the Delaware State Hornets at Drass Field in Dover, Delaware on Thursday night. The Tigers (2-2-1) defeated the Hornets (0-4-0) 9-0 to secure their second non-conference win of the season.
 
Towson got off to a fast start by scoring two quick goals to take an early lead. The Tigers added two more before the break to have a 4-0 lead. Sophie Thibeault scored three consecutive goals to extend the lead to seven. Sydney Feiler and Kendall Liermann each added a late goal to pick up a 9-0 win.

How It Happened vs Delaware State:
  • The Tigers opened the match by applying early pressure, getting three shots off.
  • Courtney Butlion drew a penalty in the 14th minute after she was fouled while dribbling in the box. Butlion had her penalty saved, but Malin Bernt Schops fired the rebound into the back of the net to get Towson on the board.
  • Six minutes later, Towson doubled its lead when Emma Levin served a cross into the box and Brooke Birrell tapped the loose ball into the back of the net.
  • Bernt Schöps scored her second goal of the game when Kale'a Perry played Alexandra Rush through the defense who then found Bernt Schöps wide open for the easy goal.
  • In the 44th minute, Demi Pierre crossed a ball back post to Rush who headed the ball past the keeper to give Towson a 4-0 lead.
  • In the 64th minute, Chiara Menegatti found Sophie Thibeault wide open in the middle and Thibeault fired a shot past the goalkeeper to extend the lead to five.
  • A minute later, Menegatti played a ball over the top of the defense and Thibeault fired a shot near post that got past the goalie to make the score 6-0.
  • In the 70th minute, Sydney Feiler had a shot saved, but Thibeault fired the rebound past the goalkeeper to complete her hat trick.
  • Two minutes later, Emily Kirkpatrick found Feiler open on top of the box who chipped the ball over the keeper to score her first collegiate goal.
  • Kendall Liermann scored her first collegiate goal in the 80th minute ­to give Towson a 9-0 win.
 
Inside the Numbers vs Delaware State:
  • Five Tigers scored their first goal for Towson.
  • Sophie Thibeault scored her first collegiate hat trick.
  • Sydney Feiler finished with a career-best two assists and four points.
  • Demi Pierre now ranks tenth all-time in program history in assists with 13.
