Field Hockey Wins Thriller vs Georgetown

Towson, Md. – The Towson University Field Hockey team took on the Georgetown Hoyas on Friday at the TU Field Hockey Complex. In a nine-goal game highlighted by a seven-goal third quarter, Towson came out on top 5-4.

  • Towson's five goals came from five different scorers.
  • Anouk Westerink scored her third goal of the season; all three came from corners.

  • Strijdom also had two assists; Bove, Westerink, and Lydia Bennett each had one assist.

How it Happened:
  • Anouk Westerink scored from a corner to open the scoring with under a minute left in the first quarter.
  • Kristin Strijdom had a shot under two minutes into the second quarter, but it went just wide of the post.
  • Midway through the second, Tatum Dobbins was one on one with Hoya goalie Ella Fahey, but her shot was knocked away.
  • Towson had another good chance saved by Fahey late in the second when a Shannon Quaile shot from a corner was also pushed away.
  • The Tigers would double the lead under a minute into the second half when Kristin Strijdom scored her first Tiger goal.
  • Towson would add another a few minutes later with Strijdom the assister for Lexi Bove.
  • Georgetown would get on the board three minutes later from a goal from Katherine Malloy.
  • Less than two minutes later, Elena Leahy added another for the Hoyas.
  • Towson would respond in less than a minute when Quaile tipped in a ball from Westerink off a corner.
  • It was Georgetown's turn to respond in under a minute as Sophie Towne brought the deficit back to one.
  • With under two minutes left in the third, Olivia Miller restored the Tigers two-goal advantage.
  • Midway through the fourth, Colleen Maloney scored to once again make it a one-goal game.
  • With five minutes to go, the Tigers would draw a penalty stroke, however Fahey would save Westerink's shot. Towson closed out the game from there 5-4.
Inside the Numbers:
  • Kristin Strijdom now has five assists on the season, more than any Towson player had in the previous year.
  • The nine goals scored in this game are the most in a Towson field hockey game since September 16, 2018.

  • The Tigers are back in action at 12 PM on Sunday when they host the Queens Royals at the TU Field Hockey Complex.
