Towson Women’s Soccer Falls in CAA Opener to Drexel

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Towson University women's soccer team traveled up to Philadelphia to start conference play against the Drexel Dragons. The Tigers (2-3-5, 0-1-0 CAA) fell to the Dragons (2-4-1, 1-0-0 CAA) 1-0 on Thursday night.
 
The teams went back and forth in the first half, but neither team could find the back of the net. The Dragons scored in the 47th minute to take the lead. The Tigers tried to find an equalizer, but Drexel's defense held strong to secure a 1-0 victory.

  • The Dragons outshot the Tigers 15-11, but each team finished with seven shots on target.
  • Riley Melendez finished with six saves while Joella Chase had seven saves.
  • Kale'a Perry led all players tonight with three shots on target.
 
How It Happened vs Drexel:
  • Towson had the game's first chance in the second minute, but Emma Levin's shot was saved.
  • In the 12th minute, Drexel fired a shot destined for the top corner, but Riley Melendez made an incredible save to keep the score tied.
  • The Tigers almost found the back of the net in the 22nd minute when Kale'a Perry played in a cross to Demi Pierre, but her shot went just over the crossbar.
  • Drexel applied pressure late in the first half, but Towson's defense held strong and kept the match scoreless heading into halftime.
  • The Dragons found the back of the net less than two minutes into the second half on a header from a corner to take a 1-0 lead.
  • Perry tried to even the score less than five minutes later, but her attempt was saved.
  • Melendez made a diving save in the 54th minute to earn her third save of the match.
  • Sophie Thibeault tried to find the back of the net off a corner, but her near post shot was saved by Joella Chase in the 74th minute.
  • Ryann Leohner tried to curl in a shot from outside the box in the 75th minute, but Chase made the save.
  • The Tigers continued to apply pressure on the Dragons, but Drexel held on to pick up a 1-0 victory.
