Towson Women’s Soccer Plays to a Draw against In-State Foe Maryland

TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University soccer team hosted the Maryland Terrapins on Thursday night in a battle of in-state foes. The Tigers (2-2-3) drew the Terrapins (2-2-3) 1-1 after Sophie Thibeault scored her fourth goal of the season on a Brooke Birrell cross in the 48th minute.
 
In the first half, Maryland found the back of the net in the 22nd minute to take an early lead. Early in the second half, Sophie Thibeault evened the score at one on a Brooke Birrell cross. The teams continued to battle back-and-forth, but the match ended in a 1-1 draw.

  • The Terrapins applied early pressure on the Tigers firing three shots to start the match.
  • In the 21st minute, Maryland took a 1-0 lead after Taryn Raibon tapped in a cross to give the Terps an early lead.
  • The Tigers tried to find an equalizer, but Demi Pierre's two shots were saved by the goalie.
  • In the 37th minute, Rebecca Groseibl fired a shot from distance, but the shot went wide right.
