Towson Drops Match to Monmouth

TOWSON, Md. – Amidst windy fall weather, the Towson University women's soccer fell to the Monmouth Hawks 3-0 on Sunday at Tiger Field.

The Hawks jumped out to a two goal lead by the 39th minute and controlled the game from there for the three goal win.

"It is a disappointing result," said Towson head coach Katherine Vettori. "We can't make defensive mistakes against a quality opponent like Monmouth and we need to convert our chances. At the end of the day, my concern is the health of the two athletes that collided going for a 50/50. I hope they recover quickly."

Key Stats:
  • The Tigers won the possession battle 54-46
  • Monmouth outshot the Tigers 14-8, both teams put 50% of their shots on target
  • Kale'a Perry led Towson with three shots
How It Happened:
  • Monmouth got on the board just under 25 minutes into the game when a touch from a Towson defender fell to the feet of the Monmouth attacker who put away the opening score
  • Just under 14 minutes later several long passes allowed Monmouth to get behind the Towson defense for the second goal
  • The Tigers were ferocious to start the second half and Perry got one-on-one with the keeper before putting the ball wide right in the 52nd minute
  • Towson was issued a red card in the 79th minute and played with 10 on the pitch for the final 11:08 of the match
  • The shorthanded Tigers allowed a goal from a cross that ricocheted off the Towson defender for an own goal

Inside the Numbers:
  • Towson moves to 4-3-1 all-time versus Monmouth
  • This is the first home loss of the season and the first time Towson has been held scoreless
Next Game:
Towson ends the season with three straight road matches starting with a North Carolina swing against Campbell on Thursday at 7 p.m. and Elon on Sunday at 1 p.m.
