Thibeault Enters All-Time Point Scorers at Towson

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – A Sophie Thibeault goal towards the end of the first half propelled herself in the Towson record books as one of the top 25 players in career points scored but Stony Brook would end up victorious by a count of 3-1.

A flurry of second half goals from Stony Brook would end up being the difference maker as the Seawolves come away with three points.

"We played well the first half and connected all over the field with possession and created some exciting attacking opportunities," said Towson head coach Katherine Vettori. "Sophie's goal was from hard work, winning the ball in their box with a beautiful finish in the lower left corner. Stony Brook came out with a lot of energy in the second half, as we expected.  We had a miscommunication error that they capitalized on to tie the game up. They are a hard working team and will punish you when making mistakes.  That was the story of the second half. We need to keep our personality and be cleaner in order to get 90 minute results."

Key Stats:
  • Stony Brook narrowly won possession 51-49. It is the second consecutive game Towson has lost the possession battle.

  • Gardner made a jaw-dropping save in the 65th minute on a long shot where she ranged back, leaped and was able to parry the ball away from the net.
  • In the final 20 minutes, Stony Brook would score three with two goals coming from well outside the 18.
