TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University field hockey team played its final home game of the 2025 season on Friday as the Tiger hosted no. 11 Monmouth.
Roos Wiarda scored her first career goal and
Tessa Scheenstra had a career high 16 saves but it wasn't enough as Towson lost to Monmouth 4-1.

How it Happened:
- Midway through the first quarter, Monmouth won four corners in a three-minute stretch. The first three corners all saw shots saved by Tessa Scheenstra, the fourth was delivered to Florance Van Doorn whose top of the circle shot was also saved by Scheenstra but the ball fell to the back post and was knocked into the goal by Alicia Vanderlyde to give the Hawks an early 1-0 lead.
- Towson quickly won a corner looking to respond and Dakotah Trader delivered then got the ball back at the front post but couldn't squeeze the ball past Charlie Bowman.
- With under three minutes left in the period, Monmouth held possession down the right sideline before a quick pass to the middle of Towson's circle found Stella Goddard-Despo whose shot was knocked down by Sheenstra but the ball fell to Claire Campen who scored to double the Hawks lead entering the second quarter.
- Towson controlled possession at the start of the second quarter earning a pair of corners that saw both Anouk Westerink and Rosemarie Staal denied the Tigers first goal by Bowman.
- A few minutes later the Hawks earned a corner, and the delivery was laid off for a Vanderlyde shot that hit Lydia Bennett standing on the goal line earning Monmouth a penalty stroke which was converted by Milla Frye making it 3-0 entering halftime.
- The third quarter also started with Towson controlling possession and another Tiger corner saw Trader deliver to Olivia Miller who set up a top of the circle shot for Roos Wiarda who scored into the left corner of the boards to make it 3-1.
- Less than a minute later Towson turned the ball over right outside of its own circle and Lilly Ricks passed to Frye in front of goal who fired a shot into the top corner to restore Monmouth's three-goal lead entering the fourth quarter.
- Midway through the final period Monmouth broke into the top of Towson's circle and Goddard-Despo passed across the goal to Ava Zerfass who was denied by a diving Sheenstra to keep the score at 4-1.
- The Tigers couldn't close the gap any further as the clock ran out and Towson fell to Monmouth 4-1.
