How it Happened
  • Elon started on offense and began with a long drive, using mainly rushes by TJ Thomas Jr and Landen Clark.  Facing third and seven on the Towson 17, Clark scrambled out of the pocket where Kaden White stopped him on a one-yard gain.  Elon hit the 34-yard field goal to lead 3-0 6:25 into the game.
  • Towson attempt a drive and used three completions to John Dunmore to get up to midfield, where the drive stalled.  Elon took over and got into Towson territory on a pass interference call, but Towson stopped the Phoenix on another QB rollout stopped by CJ McClendon.  Elon's 55-yard field goal attempt missed short.
  • Towson punted after a three-and-out, and  Elon, going into the second quarter, again had a long drive down the field.  Using a 15-play drive, Elon scored a touchdown, getting to the end zone on a Thomas Jr. two-yard rush.  The visitors led 10-0 with 6:39 left in the first half.
  • Al Wooten II earned a 24-yard rush, then CJ Schaeffer notched a 10-yard catch to get Towson back to midfield, but another punt sent the ball back to Elon.  Elon made a final drive attempt in the first half, missing a 41-yard field goal.  Elon led 10-0 at the break.
  • Into the second half, Towson had a three-and-out, then Elon again returned to Towson territory.  At first and 10 at the Towson 32, Clark threw a deep pass which was intercepted by Jasin Shiggs and brought back to the Towson 28.  But, another three-and-out returned the ball to Elon after a punt.
  • Elon had fourth and one on its own 42, executing a fake punt on an eight-yard rush on direct snap.  Towson held from there as Elijah Tarlton stopped Clark on a third and two rush attempt, forcing a punt.  Towson's offense came alive, having a 27-yard pass to Jaceon Doss and a 45-yard throw down the sideline to Cleveland Charlton.  Towson had the ball on the Elon 1 going into the fourth quarter, but could not get into the end zone.  Caden Williams hit the 30-yard field goal to pull Towson within one score at 10-3 with 13:01 left in the fourth.
  • Towson had a chance, forcing a three-and-out and going to offense, using short passes to get towards midfield.  On first and 10, Andrew Indorf was pressured and threw an interception to give the ball back to Elon.  A 47-yard pass to Jimmyll Williams set up first and goal, and two plays later, Dan Frederick scored on a two-yard run to give Elon a 17-7 lead with 6:57 left.
  • A deep throw to Dunmore for 52 yards, then an Indorf rush for nine set up Towson with second and one on the Elon 6, but three straight stops gave the ball to Elon.  Towson's defense forced a three and out and attempted another scoring drive, methodically coming down to the Elon 4, but did not score.  Elon took the win 17-3.
