Field hockey has consumed all but three years of Christina Boarman Zajac's life simply because she wasn't introduced to the sport until she was four-years-old. She would go on to establish herself as one of the Tigers' top players of all-time.
Joining Christina are Ashley Adams White (track), Shanae Baker-Brice (basketball), Roger Dickens (basketball) and Decelia Willacy (gymnastics) in the Class of 2025 to be honored at the Hall of Fame's 61
st Annual Induction Banquet to be held October 10
th on campus in the University Union. The 2010-11 women's swimming team will also be recognized as the Team of Distinction. (For tickets go to:

"My interest in field hockey began when I first entered elementary school," Christina says. "The owner of my Montessori school's son had played men's field hockey in the Olympics and was also a coach at UVA at the time. He started coaching us when we were very young, and he recognized my innate talent early on. He helped place me into the USA Field Hockey pipeline, previously called Futures, which set the stage for my development."
As time passed Christina became devoted to field hockey. Before arriving to TU she would qualify as a member of the Junior U.S. Girls under 16 National Team and the U-19 Girls National Team. She played for the Ocelots Club team for nine years helping that program compete in three National Hockey Festivals, nine California Cups and four appearances at the AAU Disney Classic. A 10-year member of the United States Field Hockey Association, she was part of the Futures Elite program, competing in six National Futures Tournaments. Just prior to entering Towson she competed in the Canadian/American Games.
When it came time for high school, Christina opted for St. Paul's School for Girls. "My brothers attended other private schools closer to home but neither of those schools had a good field hockey program," Christina says. "I chose St. Paul's for its outstanding academics and state championship field hockey program, even though it meant commuting daily from our home in Howard County."
A four-year starter at St. Paul's, Christina piled up the accolades. A two-time first team All-State selection and a three-time first team All-Metro pick, she led the Gators to three league championships. She was heavily recruited by many of the NCAA's elite field hockey programs including Duke, Wake Forest, Virginia, Maryland and Northwestern. Her decision, though, to attend Towson was very personal. Just prior to her high school graduation her parents lost their home in a fire.
"That hit me pretty hard," Christina says. "My parents were a huge part of my field hockey career, supported me throughout. I chose Towson to stay close to them so they could come and watch me play. Also, my elementary school coach (John Kovach) was an assistant on Towson's staff and I knew I would feel at home playing there."
A four-year starter, she shattered Towson's career records. She maintains a firm grip on the all-time leader spots for goals (46), assists (36) and points (128). She has a double-digit lead on the career lists for assists and points. She continues to hold single season records for most goals scored (20) and most points (55). Highly decorated, Christina was selected All-CAA first team twice and second team once after being picked to the league's All-Rookie team as a freshman. She was a CAA Preseason Team selection three consecutive years. She was named to the Mid-Atlantic All-Regional first team in 2008, the last Tiger to date to earn that honor and only one of four ever so recognized in program history. A Psychology major, Christina was a four-time member of the NFHCA National Academic Team.
Following graduation Christina played club field hockey in the city. In 2018 she began coaching the Warhawks Field Hockey Club, taking the travel team, which was annually ranked among the top five and six nationally, to the National Club Championships. When asked how many of her players went on to play for top NCAA Division I programs, Christina said, "All of them."
After 13 years at Under Armour as its Senior Lead of DTC Omni Merchandising, Christina now serves as the Senior Director of Retail for CrossFit LLC. True to her roots, Christina continues to give back to the sport she loves by coaching with the Hammers Field Hockey Club.
