TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University football team will look to defend home turf in Homecoming, challenging #12/11 Monmouth on Saturday, Oct. 11 at 2 p.m.

Towson is looking to bounce back after a 17-3 home defeat to Elon on Oct. 4, moving to 3-3 overall and 1-1 in the CAA.  Monmouth, currently at No. 12 in the STATS FCS Poll and No. 11 in the AFCA Coaches Poll, has won its last two, including a 49-38 win vs. Delaware State on Oct. 4, to be 4-1 overall and 1-0 in the CAA.
 
This is the 12th all-time meeting between the two, with Towson having a dominant 9-2 lead in the series.  This includes last year's meeting, a 26-14 win for the Tigers in West Long Branch.  Monmouth has won the last meeting at Unitas, a 42-23 victory on Sept. 9, 2023.
 
Towson has its bye week next week and then is on the road for the next two games, not returning for a game at Unitas until Nov. 8 vs. Villanova.

THIRD YEAR IN PETE SHINNICK ERA
Towson enters its third season under head coach Pete Shinnick in 2024.  Under coach Shinnick, Towson has a 15-14 record, including three victories over then-top-15 teams, including a 34-27 win vs. then-#12/10 William & Mary on Oct. 5, 2024.
 
Towson has had five head coaches in program history: Carl Runk (1969-71), Phil Albert (1972-91), Gordy Combs (1992-2008), Rob Ambrose (2009-22) and Pete Shinnick (2023-pres.).
 
BRODIE, TERRY EARN PRESEASON ALL-CAA
Towson defensive backs Myles Brodie and Xavier Terry have been placed on the 2025 CAA Preseason All-Conference Team.  In addition, two more Tigers, John Dunmore and Rodney Roane Jr., were chosen as CAA Football Preseason All-Conference Honorable Mention.
 
Brodie was a 2024 All-CAA Third Team defensive back for Towson, having the team lead with two interceptions and nine pass break-ups.  The redshirt senior cornerback added 44 tackles and had a four-game streak with at least one pass break-up.
 
Terry has been in the top-two for Towson in tackles in each of the past two seasons, including last year tallying up 82 tackles, five pass break-ups, an interception and two forced fumbles.  The redshirt senior safety had at least four tackles in all 12 games last season.
 
In his first full year with the team in 2024, Dunmore was Towson's leader in receiving yards with 619 and receiving touchdowns with five.  Also serving as a special teams returner, the redshirt senior wide receiver had at least 35 receiving yards in 10 games last year.
 
Roane played all 12 games at linebacker in 2024, finishing second on the team with four sacks, adding 58 tackles and five tackles for loss.  The senior had at least three tackles in all 12 games last season.
 
IT'S TIME TO START RUNNING!
Towson will have new players carrying the ball with all running backs recording yards last year having departed, including Devin Matthews and Tyrell Greene Jr., who each averaged 6+ yards a carry in 2024.
 
Graduate transfer Al Wooten II, who played at Mercer and Duke, has taken the lead on carries, rushing 71 times for 265 yards and three scores.  True freshman Kemarrion Battles has 51 rushing attempts for 199 yards and one touchdown.
 
MOVING UP THE SACKS LIST
During the Shinnick era, Towson has caused more pressure on the quarterback with 33 sacks in 2024.  With 29 sacks in 2023, Towson has had its top two sack totals in a season since 2013.  Towson's six sacks vs. N.C. A&T on Nov. 16, 2024 ties the most amount in a game for the Tigers since having seven at Villanova on Oct. 27, 2012.

TIGERS IN THE PROS
Several Tigers have been competing in the professional ranks after their time with the Black & Gold.
 
Carter Runyon was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Las Vegas Raiders, later being placed on the practice squad.  He was elevated to the active roster on Sept. 28, making his professional debut vs. the Indianapolis Colts on Oct. 5.  It is the second straight year where Towson has had an undrafted free agent signing, with Robert Javier signing with the Tennessee Titans in 2024.
 
Another Towson alum, Grant Udinski '19, is the offensive coordinator for the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2025.  A 2018 CSC Academic All-America® First Team defensive lineman, he spent the last three years as assistant OC for the Minnesota Vikings.
 
In the CFL, Tibo Debaillie '21 is playing his fifth year as a professional, including season four with the BC Lions.  The Belgium native has played 59 career games in the CFL.

LAFOLLETTE - CAMPBELL TROPHY SEMIFINALIST
Bryce LaFollette was named a semifinalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy® on Sept. 24.  The Campbell Trophy®, awarded by the National Football Foundation (NFF), recognizes an individual as the absolute best scholar-athlete in the nation for combined academic success, football performance and exemplary leadership.
 
LaFollette is Towson's punter, averaging 44.3 yards per punt, including six punts over 50 yards and nine landing inside the 20-yard line.  In the classroom, the redshirt junior is set to graduate in the spring with a degree in marketing/business administration.  He is also an active community service contributor with Towson football and in his hometown.
 
YOU ARE UP, ROOKIE
Towson is starting a true freshman at quarterback, Andrew Indorf.  Through three games, the Florida native is passing 59.6% with 1166 yards, seven touchdowns and three interceptions.
 
It is the first time Towson has started a true freshman since Peter Athens started six games in 2009.
 
Indorf was selected to start at QB above Sean Brown, Towson's starting QB in 2024, and Nathan Kent, the starting QB for the Tigers in 2023.

XAVIER TERRY - 200+ CAREER TACKLES
On Oct. 4, Xavier Terry surpassed the career 200-tackle mark, all in his time with Towson from 2021-25.  He currently stands with 203 career tackles.
 
A converted linebacker, the 2023 Wardell Turner Scholarship recipient has been a starter at safety for Towson since the beginning of the Pete Shinnick era in 2023.  He was the team's leading tackler in 2023 with 75 and was second in 2024 with 82.

Monmouth, under 33-year head coach Kevin Callahan, the longest tenured coach among CAA schools, averages an FCS-best 575.6 yards of total offense per game, being fifth with 45.2 points per game.
 
Graduate student Derek Robertson, the CAA Preseason Offensive Player of the Year, throws over 70% for 2,028 yards, 22 TDs and five picks.  Junior and Towson native Josh Derry is the leading receiver with 38 catches, 577 yards and eight touchdowns.  On defense, sophomore defensive back Jaeden Jones is the leading tackler with 50, including three tackles for loss.

Towson came back from down 21-0 in the second quarter with 22 unanswered points, going ahead for good on a George Perdikakis 35-yard field goal with 2:47 left to win 22-21 in the season opener. Kevin Smith threw for 303 yards while Kevyn Dodson scored two touchdowns in the third quarter.
 
--Oct. 28, 2000 (West Long Branch, N.J. - Towson 12-0)
A stellar Towson defensive effort, including allowing four first downs and 105 total yards plus earning a safety, led to a 12-0 shutout win at Monmouth. Noah Reed outgained Monmouth with 115 rushing yards while future Towson Athletics Hall of Famer Andrew Hollingsworth had three sacks.
 
--Oct. 29, 2022 (West Long Branch, N.J. - Towson 52-48)
In a wild offensive game, Towson scored on nine of its first 10 offensive drives and had the ball in 35:35 of the game to win 52-48 in the first meeting between the teams in 20 years. D'Ago Hunter would earn FCS National Special Teams Player of the Week with 334 all-purpose yards, including a 92-yard
kickoff return for a touchdown and a 74-yard punt return.
 
CAA FOOTBALL SHAKEUP
CAA Football will undergo changes following the 2025 season.  Villanova, whom Towson will play on Nov. 8, and William & Mary will depart for the Patriot League in football following this season.  The league will add Sacred Heart, currently an FCS independent, starting in the 2026 season.
 
TOWSON WINS THE BATTLE FOR GREATER BALTIMORE
John Dunmore's TD catch with 24 seconds left returned The Battle for Greater Baltimore trophy to Towson as the Tigers defeated Morgan State 27-22 on Sept. 6 in a matchup of the two closest teams in FCS football, separated by 4.6 miles.
 
Towson is now 24-6 all-time against the Bears, having won eight straight games.  Morgan State's last win in the series came on Sept. 26, 2009, a 12-9 victory in Baltimore.
 
CARL RUNK (1936-2024)
The first-ever head coach of Towson football Carl Runk passed away on Nov. 24, 2024 at the age of 88.
 
He served as head coach for three years from 1969-71, including a 6-2 season in 1970.  He also was head coach of Towson men's lacrosse from 1968-98, leading that team to 262 victories and the 1974 DII national championship.  Runk was inducted into the Towson Athletics Hall of Fame in 2007.
