ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Towson University tennis team completed its first day of the Navy Duals, hosted by the U.S. Naval Academy. Sophomore Tamzin Pountney secured a win for the Tigers against Navy in singles action.
"Tamzin Pountney played very well and came up with a win," said head coach Jamie Peterson. "Gaia Montecchi also competed well but lost in a close one. We look forward to coming back tomorrow and having a better day."
Singles
Sophomore Gaia Montecchi competed at the No. 1 flight, falling to Navy's Manci Pal in a hard fought 10-3 tiebreaker decision after sets of 6-2 and 4-6.
Kiersten Tambe dropped 6-3, 6-3 to Grace Li.
Tamzin Pountney picked up Towson's lone win of the day to Sydney Fuger, 7-6 (2), 6-4.
Ashira Murray dropped to Jina Cha at the No. 4 spot, 6-2, 6-4.
Sania Suchinsky fell to Anna Jordann 6-2, 6-1.
Navy's Anna Wiskowski bested sophomore Chloe Courtnage, 6-0, 6-1.
Doubles
Kiersten Tambe and Chandre Boshoff dropped 6-0 against Olivia Fermo and Nicole Fu.
Tamzin Pountney and Aubrey Carper fell to Emma Gu and Molly Bellia, 6-2.
Ashira Murray and Sania Suchinsky came up short to Peyton Philemon and Ji Soo Oh, 7-5.
