KISSIMMEE, Fla. – A block in the final seconds of the game by
Tyler Tejada sealed the 72-69 victory for the Towson Tigers over the Liberty Flames on Tuesday to advance to the championship game of the Terry's Chocolate ESPN Events Invitational on Wednesday at 12 p.m.
"This was just a tremendous team win against a really talented, well coached, talented, successful Liberty team," head coach
Pat Skerry said. "We were able to guard the three point shot and do what we do on the backboards to come out with a hard fought victory."
KEY STATS
- Towson held Liberty to .233 from behind the arc, their lowest this season and their lowest in a regular season game since Jan 18, 2025 against New Mexico State.
- The Tiger's bench outscored the Flames' bench 22-6.
- Towson won the rebounding battle 39-25 over the Flames.
- Tejada tied a career high in rebounds with nine.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The game started with an early six point lead, 10-4, for the Tigers.
- The Tigers held the lead through the 11:58 mark of the first half.
- The rest of the half remained close with the Flames holding a six-point lead at one point before Towson fought back, taking cutting it to a one-point lead off a Dylan Williamson buzzer beater to end the half.
- The Flames came out on fire in the second half and opened up an eight point lead within the first six minutes.
- A Jack Doumbia Jr. three-point play marked the culmination of the comeback stage of the game for the Tigers with the score at 52-51. The game had now moved into the grit stage.
- The Tigers took the lead at 5:50 and they did not concede the lead.
- The Flames were eventually forced to foul and Tyler Tejada knocked down four clutch free throws to ice the game
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Williamson, Tejada, and Doumbia Jr. were the only Tigers to score in the first half with only four field goal attempts coming from other players.
- The Tiger Trio scored 57 of the 62 Towson points on the day.
- Towson outpaced the Rams 19-8 in bench points.
