BALTIMORE, Md. –
Tyler Tejada puts up his most points in a season opener with 24 as the Towson men's basketball team defeats Loyola 67-56 on Monday night at CFG Bank Arena.
Tejada was named the player of the game for the performance after setting a new career high in free throws attempted and tying a career high in assists, steals, free throws made and minutes played.
Key Stats:
- Towson shot 51.85% from the field in the second half after shooting 36.67% in the first half
- Three Tigers scored in double figures in Tejada (24), Dylan Williamson (14) and Jack Doumbia Jr. (13)
- Tejada and Williamson each played 39 minutes
- The Tigers outscored Loyola in the paint 44-24
How It Happened:
- Early defense kept the Greyhounds off the board for the first two minutes and 27 seconds of the game
- Loyola didn't make a field goal for over four minutes to start the game
- Towson got cold from the field, only scoring three points for seven minutes and 43 seconds in the middle
- Loyola led 28-22 before Towson ended the half on a 6-0 run to enter the half tied
- The Greyhounds scored the first bucket of the second half before a 10-2 run put the Tigers up six at the first media timeout of the second half
- The game was withing two possessions at five points before Towson went on a 13-0 run with all points being scored by Williamson or Tejada, six by Williamson and seven by Tejada
- From that point on, the game remained at a double digit margin with a late three by Loyola keeping the margin at 11
