Hofstra Completes Comeback over Towson Volleyball

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – The Towson University volleyball team faced Hofstra on Friday evening in the team's penultimate match of the regular season.
 
After Towson (20-6, 11-4 CAA) held a match point in set four, Hofstra (19-2, 11-2 CAA) fought back to win the set and send the match to a fifth. The Pride won the final set, 15-11, to win the match three sets to two.

  • Towson held decisive hitting edges in their two sets won.
  • In the deciding set, the Pride held a .375 to .217 hitting percentage edge. The Tigers had five attacking errors in the set to Hofstra's one.
 
How it Happened
  • Hofstra opened the first set with a 10-5 lead before the Tigers scored six of the next seven points to tie the score at 11 all.
  • Towson won the opening set 25-20 powered by runs of three, four and five straight points.
  • The teams traded short runs to get the second set to five all.
  • The Pride answered that with a 6-1 run to take an 11-6 lead.
  • The Tigers responded to that with six unanswered points of their own, taking the set lead at 12-11.
  • Down 13-12, Hofstra closed the set on a 13-4 run to tie the score at one set apiece.
  • Short runs of two and three points put the Tigers up 7-4 early in set three.
  • After the Pride cut the deficit to one, Towson won nine of the next ten points to go up 16-7.
  • With a comfortable lead in the set, the Tigers finished the frame up 9-8 to win, 25-15.
  • Towson used short runs in the fourth set to build a 21-16 lead.
  • The Pride answered with five unanswered points to tie the set at 21 all.
  • The Tigers got their first match point opportunity at 24-23 and surrendered the next two points to the Pride to give them their first set point opportunity in the frame.
  • The teams sided out to 28 all before a Towson service error and Hofstra kill delivered the 30-28 set win to the Pride.
  • Hofstra got out to an early 6-2 lead in the fifth set.
  • Down 9-6, the Tigers ripped off five of the next six points to take the lead at 11-10.
  • Hofstra won the next five points to win the final set, 15-11. The Pride won the match three sets to two.
