TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University softball team faced Coppin State in its home opener to kick off the DeMarini Tiger Clash. The Tigers used a 4-run fourth inning and clutch relief pitching to defeat the Eagles 8-6.
Key Stats:
- Kristin Toland hit her Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) leading fourth home run of the season as part of a 4 RBI night.
- Madyson Peters hit a go-ahead 2-run single to put Towson up for good.
- Jenna Giattino (2 hits, 1 walk) and Isabella Canesi (1 hit, 2 walks) were on base three times each.
- Alyssa Myint hit an RBI double, Anaya Troy and Briyana Wright also recorded hits.
- Alyssa Bostley and Cadence Williams combined to throw 3.1 innings of shutout ball. Bostley pitched 2.1 innings allowing only one hit and picked up her second win of the season. Williams, making her Towson debut, threw a hitless 7th inning to record her first Tiger save.
- For Coppin State: Xzylia Maravilla hit a homerun, and Aniyah Haley, Julianna Mejia, Giselle Ulloa and Brooklyn Tapusoa all recorded hits and RBIs. Debra Hyde pitched 4.2 innings allowing 8 hits and 4 earned runs in the loss. Tatjana Harris threw 1.1 hitless innings in relief.
How it Happened:
- Coppin struck early as a one out fielding error followed by back-to-back singles from Giselle Ulloa and Brooklyn Tapusoa scored 2 runs to put the Eagles up 2-0.
- In the bottom half, Jenna Giattino hit a leadoff double and later scored via a Kristin Toland sac fly to cut the lead in half.
- The Eagles responded the next inning as with 2 outs in the top of the second, Natasha Arroyo doubled and scored from a throwing error the next batter to restore Coppin's 2 run lead.
- Coppin State increased its lead again in the third, Xzylia Maravilla lifted a line drive just over the left field wall for a solo homerun to make it 4-1 Eagles.
- Giattino hit her second leadoff hit of the game and came around to score again, this time off Toland's fourth home run of the season to cut the lead to 4-3.
- However, the Eagles scored for the fourth straight inning when with two outs and a runner on second. Aniyah Haley doubled, and Julianna Mejia singled to plate 2 runs and push Coppin's lead back to 3.
- Towson again hit back as a walk, fielder's choice and hit by pitch loaded the bases with one out. An Elizabeth Yoskowitz pinch hit fielder's choice and a Toland groundout each scored a run to make it 6-5. Then Madyson Peters hit a 2-run single to give Towson its first lead of the game at 7-6.
- Alyssa Bostley retired the side in the 5th and 6th innings via six consecutive groundouts.
- Isabella Canesi singled to lead off the bottom of the 5th, Cansei stole second and later scored on a 2-out double by Alyssa Myint.
- South Alabama transfer Cadence Williams made her Towson debut out of the bullpen with one on and no outs in the top of the 7th. Williams induced a pop-up into foul territory and a double play to earn her first Towson save and an 8-6 victory for Towson.

Three more games in the DeMarini Tiger Clash will take place on Friday with Towson playing in the latter two. The Tigers will face Colgate at 12:30 p.m. on FloCollege before a 3:00 p.m. matchup vs Bryant.
