SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Towson University Softball team played two more games at the Terrier Invite. The Tigers lost to Dayton 3-7 to wrap up the round robin games then fell 1-9 to Wofford in the first of two seeded games.
GAME 1: Towson 3, Dayton 7
Key Stats:
- Kristin Toland was the only Tiger with multiple hits.
- Isabella Canesi finished with a double and two RBI's.
- Jenna Giattino had a hit and a RBI
- Grace Franczyk recorded a hit.
- Amanda Medina (1-1) made her second start of the season; the sophomore threw five innings allowing nine hits and six earned runs with two walks and two strikeouts while taking the loss.
- Alyssa Bostley threw two innings of relief allowing two hits and one run with two strikeouts.
- For Dayton, Deidre Flaherty had three hits and Emma Schutter finished with four RBI's. Camryn Craig started on the mound and threw four innings allowing three hits and one earned run with two strikeouts while picking up the win, Camrynn Linneman and Izzy Kemp both made scoreless relief appearances.
How it Happened:
- Towson struck first in the first inning, Taylor Broadbent reached on an error and Grace Franczyk was hit by a pitch then Isabella Canesi doubled to score both and put Towson ahead 2-0.
- Dayton responded the next inning as with one out three straight batters reached base with a single, a walk and another single to load the bases for Emma Schutter who cleared them with a double to give Dayton the 3-2 lead.
- In the top of the fourth, Addy Justice singled and stole second then scored as Schutter reached on an error to double Dayton's lead.
- Towson responded in the bottom of the inning as Kristin Toland singled with one out then was doubled home by Jenna Giattino to bring the Tiger's deficit back to one.
- Dayton struck back in the fifth with a leadoff single with the runner moving to third on a pair of ground outs. With two outs Dayton hit three straight singles and adding two insurance runs to make it 6-3.
- Leading off the top of the sixth, Schutter reached third base on an outfield error and was scored on a Kirnan Bailey single to push the lead to 7-3. Dayton.
- A single, walk and fielder's choice put runners on the corners for Towson in the bottom of the sixth, but no more runs scored in the game with the Tigers falling 7-3.
Game Two: Towson 1, Wofford 9
Key Stats:
- Anaya Troy recorded her first Towson hit and RBI with an RBI triple.
- Addie Ferguson and Taylor Broadbent also recorded hits.
- Olivia Trombley made her second start of the season pitching four innings allowing nine hits and six earned runs in the loss.
- For Wofford, Kate Platte had two hits and an RBI and Rivers Sampson recorded three hits and two RBI's. Brianna Stanley and Hope Ingle had three RBIs each. Abby Green started for the Terriers and threw five innings of one-run ball striking out five and only allowing three hits.
How it Happened:
- Wofford put two runners on in the bottom of the first with a single and a HBP, then Hope Ingle hit a three-run homerun to make it 3-0 Terriers early.
- The home team's lead doubled in the second as with runners on the corners and no outs Kate Platte singled to make it 4-0 then the next batter Rivers Sampson bunted and advanced to second on a throwing error that saw two more runs scored to push the lead to 6-0.
- Taylor Broadbent hit a double with one out in the top of the fourth for the Tigers first hit of the game. But a groundout and strikeout ended the inning with no runs scoring.
- Three straight Wofford singles loaded the bases to start the bottom of the fourth, and a Brianna Stanley single cleared them to make it 9-0 Terriers.
- Addie Ferguson singled in the top of the fifth and scored on an Anaya Troy triple. But Wofford closed the game out from there to win 9-1.
