Towson Drops Mid-Week Contest to West Virginia in Morgantown

MORGANTOWN, W.V. – The Towson University baseball team faced West Virginia on Tuesday afternoon at Wagener Field in Morgantown.
 
The Mountaineers (15-1) built an early lead, scoring multiple runs in three of the first four innings to push it to 9-0 after four. The Tigers (4-12) added two runs in the sixth and three in the eighth before a five-run bottom half gave west Virginia a 16-5 win in eight innings.

  • Towson starter Jonathan Rosario (0-2) took the loss with four runs allowed, two earned, on two hits and one walk in 0.2 innings pitched.
  • West Virginia starter Chase Meyer (3-0) earned the win, tossing two hitless frames with two walks allowed. Meyer struck out three.
 
How it Happened
  • West Virginia started the scoring in the bottom of the first, plating four runs on two hits and two errors.
  • The Mountaineers added three runs on one hit and one error in the bottom of the second to extend their lead to seven.
  • In the bottom of the fourth, a double and groundout with runners on pushed WVU's lead to 9-0.
  • Towson plated two runs on two hits in the top of the sixth. With the bases loaded, Casey Bishop hit a two-run double up the middle to put the Tigers on the board.
  • The Mountaineers added another run in the home half on an RBI groundout with a runner on third.
  • West Virginia's Barnett led off the bottom of the seventh with a home run to left field, making it an 11-2 game.
  • The Tigers added three runs on two hits in the top of the eighth. Bishop scored the first on Jordan Peyton's walk with the bases loaded. Moments later, Josh Janove singled up the middle to plate two more runs to make it 11-5.
  • In the bottom half, a bases loaded walk pushed West Virginia's lead to seven before a grand slam on the next at-bat ended the game 16-5 after eight innings due to the ten-run rule.
