Softball Loses Series Opener to Hofstra

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – The Towson University softball team played the first of a three-game road Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) series against the Hofstra Pride. In a game that finished in under 90 minutes, the Tigers fell to the Pride 4-1.

  • Grace Franczyk had a hit and an RBI.
  • Cara Bohner, Briyana Wright and Isabella Canesi recorded the Tigers other three hits.
  • Amanda Medina started on the mound and pitched 6.0 innings allowing 6 hits and 4 runs in the loss.
  • For Hofstra, Olivia Malinowski had a hit and 2 RBIs, Gemma D'Orazio hit a solo homerun, Mackenzi Fitzgerald recorded 1 hit and an RBI. Emma Falen pitched a complete game allowing 4 hits and 1 run with 8 strikeouts over the 7.0 innings.
 
How it Happened:
  • Emma Falen retired the Tigers in order in the 1st.
  • Dahlia Palacio hit a 1-out single in the bottom of the inning then stole second, with 2 outs Mackenzi Fitzgerald hit an RBI single to give Hofstra a 1-0 lead.
  • Falen struck out the side in the top of the 2nd and Amanda Medina sent the Pride down in order in the home half.
  • Briyana Wright hit a 2-out single for Towson's first hit of the game but Fallen retired the next batter to end the inning.
  • Gemma D'Orazio hit a solo homerun to lead off the bottom of the third to double the Pride's lead.
  • Fallen again struck out the side in the 4th.
  • Hofstra hit back-to-back singles, and a sacrifice bunt put runners on second and third with two outs for Olivia Malinowski who hit a 2-run single to push the Pride's lead to 4-0.
  • There were only six total at bats in the 5th inning.
  • Cara Bohner hit a 1-out single in the top of the 6th and with 2 outs Grace Franczyk hit an RBI double to make it 4-1.
  • Medina pitched a 1-2-3 inning in the bottom of the inning.
  • Isabella Canesi led off the 7th inning with a double, but Falen closed out the game to earn a 4-1 Hofstra win.
