TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University baseball team split a doubleheader with Cornell Saturday afternoon at Schuerholz Park. The Tigers (6-13) won the opener 6-5, while Cornell (4-6) took the nightcap 18-7.
Max D'Alessandro went 6-for-10 with seven RBI in the two games, including a pair of home runs in Game 2.
Taye Robinson was 5-of-8 with 5 RBI, which included two home runs in Game 1.
How it Happened – Game 1
- Robinson's 3-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning gave Towson a 5-2 advantage.
- Cornell rallied against the Tiger bullpen to tie the game in the eighth inning. A two-run home run by Mark Quatrani cut the deficit to 5-4 with no outs in the eighth.
- A walk to Kevin Hager put the tying run on base. Hager reached third base on a throwing error by pitcher Nate Nabholz trying to pick him off. With two outs, Hager scored on a wild pitch to tie the game.
- In the bottom of the ninth, Brian Heckelman had a one-out single, advanced to second on a walk to Brett Ahalt then scored on a walk off single by Brady Nathison.
How it Happened – Game 2
- Cornell jumped out to a 5-0 run lead with runs in each of the first three innings.
- D'Alessandrohit a grand slam HR to left center in the bottom of the third reducing the deficit to 5-4.
- After the Big Red went up 8-4, D'Alessandro and Robinson had RBI hits in the fifth to make it 8-6.
- Cornell then scored seven times in the top of the sixth inning to break things open.
- D'Alessandro added a solo HR in the seventh. The junior has a team-best six home runs in just 43 at bats.
Key Stats
- Max Simpson allowed two runs on three hits with three strikeouts in six innings in the opener. It was the third quality start of the season in five outings for the redhirt senior.
Inside the Numbers
- Towson had stolen bases in both games and now has at least one steal in 12 of 19 games this season.
- Nabholz picked up the win in Game 1 to improve to 2-0 this season. The redshirt senior struck out four batters in two innings.

- The rubber game of the three-game series is tomorrow. First pitch is 12 p.m. – one hour earlier than scheduled as thunderstorms are expected in the Baltimore area during the late afternoon.
